The Cengage Global Business (“CGB”) Strategy & Business Development team works closely with the President of CGB and our Executive Team to develop and execute global strategies that serve to fulfill our corporate goals. We lead deep-dive analyses on critical “needle-moving” topics, drive key strategic initiatives to evolve our business models, and optimize company-wide performance through operational improvements. This is a small, nimble team with high visibility and direct ownership of and accountability in mission critical areas.
The Director of Strategy & Business Development, CGB leads projects across our global businesses to deepen our customer engagement and provides new ways for students and teachers globally to use our content.
What You’ll Do Here:
Drives key strategic initiatives
Leads cross-functional projects to accelerate business unit transformation
Optimizes company-wide performance through operational improvements
Leads project teams of Strategy Analysts and/or functional and business unit members
Individually executes large scale projects
Defines, structures & executes operational & strategic initiatives by developing work plans, capturing & synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses, & developing actionable recommendations
Presents findings to senior management & prepare documentation for Board of Directors
Supports operational and reporting requirements of global business on an as-needed basis
Skills You Will Need Here:
Minimum of 5 years previous management consulting experience with proven track record of achievement and/or equivalent corporate strategy experience
Overall 7+ years of professional experience
Experience delivering large, complex projects and influencing business outcomes
Evidence of successful project management spanning multiple dimensions (i.e., large vs. small, cross-matrixed and single team/unit, etc.)
Proven ability to conceive and execute quantitative analysis and deliver data-driven insights
Excellent written, oral, presentation and facilitation skills
Capacity to work independently or as part of a team with a “roll up your sleeves” approach
Highly collaborative and able to influence; should embrace, support and practice a collaborative style which goes beyond relationship building; will achieve results with and through others
Ability to self-manage progress and deliverables with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
Ability to travel (expect <10%)
MBA (or equivalent) preferred
Prior experience leading successful organizational transformation projects a plus
Previous experience in education, software, and/or publishing industries a plus
