The Distinguished Scientist, Discovery Process Chemistry functions as the scientific lead for the group, spanning all sites in the network. They drive impact through innovation across the portfolio by driving scientific excellence across the organization through strategic leadership, team mentorship and individual contributions. They sit on the Discovery Process Chemistry leadership team and contribute to key business decisions.
The Distinguished Scientist reports to the Executive Director, Head of Discovery Process Chemistry (DPC), Process Research & Development (PR&D) in the Research & Development Laboratories organization. The incumbent will effectively partner with key stakeholders to positively affect chemistry culture and tactics across the network to deliver key pipeline impacts. They identify and prioritize potential application of PR&D enabling technologies in Discovery and Early Development and partner with other Distinguished Scientists across the Discovery Chemistry network on synthetic chemistry excellence strategy.
As a subject matter expert in early Drug Discovery and Development, the incumbent is expected to have substantive roles in governance, training, and business development activities. They help direct teams to prepare all governance presentations and documents related to discovery and early development milestones. Other critical tasks include: 1) play a significant role as a mentor across DPC and with PR&D small molecule Early Development Team members; 2) be a brand ambassador for DPC, contributing to strategic external partnerships to enhance chemistry capabilities as well as attract talent. 3) lead a project team, strategic initiative or cross-functional teams as determined by complexity of the ask.
- Ph.D. in chemistry, or related pharmaceutical science is required
10+ years' experience in drug discovery and/or early drug development
Demonstrated ability in leading cross-functional groups
Track record and commitment to employee development/retention.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Subject matter expertise in Discovery Process Chemistry with experience on Early Development Teams.
Strength in driving results on firm deadlines.
Demonstrated ability in selection and prioritization of a portfolio of projects.
They must be internationally recognized in the pharmaceutical development area with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and external research presentations.
