State of Massachusetts Electrician II in Boston, Massachusetts
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking a dedicated Electrician to join our facilities department. The incumbent would respond, test, and maintain our electrical systems to deliver a quality environment for our patients and staff. Work with our team to address ongoing work orders, preventative maintenance measures, testing and troubleshooting systems as well as implement and report on project initiatives for the department. /_Schedule_/:Monday - Friday 7:30AM-4PM /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/_ * Tests, repairs, install and/or maintains various types of electrical systems and equipment by operating the appropriate equipment and tools to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of necessary equipment. * Troubleshoots electrical and related equipment by using necessary equipment and reading schematics, diagrams, and outlines to identify and correct operational problems. * Maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and materials by contacting vendors for equipment prices and ordering equipment materials. * Inspects the work of outside contractors visually to ensure compliance with agency safety codes and regulations. * Determines on the job procedure changes by consulting with trades people, private utilities, outside contractors and engineers to obtain technical advice and coordinate and expedite work projects. * Determines acceptable quality of materials and/or equipment necessary for a job to ensure that complete work projects comply with specification. * Performs related duties such as reviewing technical literature to keep abreast of developments in the field; resetting fire alarm systems; deciding when to kill main electrical power supply in an emergency; setting up, breaking down and/or moving staging; drafting schematics, diagrams and outlines; and providing on the job training. /*Required Qualifications:*/_ * Knowledge of state and local electrical codes * Comprehends the principles and theory of electricity * Experience with types and uses of small hand tools, and hand-held power tools used in electrical practice such as pliers, screwdrivers, drills etc. * Understands the types and uses of equipment including testing equipment used in electrical work. * Knowledge of safety practices and precautions overserved in the electrical trade as well as inspection techniques used in the electrical trade. * Apply the use of precision measuring equipment, gauges and instrumentation used in electrical work. * Can transport heavy objects * Follow oral and written instructions * Write clearly and concisely and maintain accurate records * Can perform calculations to determine voltage, amperage, and resistance factors * Read and interpret documents such as electrical plans, schematics, drawings, * Climb and work from ladders and scaffolds * Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring systems and equipment * Detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment /_Preferred Qualifications:_/_ * Experience working in healthcare facilities * Familiarity with computer programs for building out program initiatives /*About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:*/_ Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients.
