Jacobs Environmental Scientist/Human Health Risk Assessor (Flexible Location/Hybrid) in Boston, Massachusetts

We are seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Scientist with strong quantitative skills to work on human health risk assessments for complex site characterization and remediation projects for both federal and private sector clients.

Based anywhere out of the United States, you will support human health risk assessments from study design to site characterization, data evaluation, and interpretation. You will gain experience with Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study projects and how human health risk assessment fits into the overall environmental site closure process. Evaluations will include receptor exposure estimation/modeling, relating literature-based toxicity data for risk estimation, risk characterization, and overall reporting. You will interact with technical experts from multiple fields to develop and implement comprehensive site strategies and deliver innovative solutions on challenging sites. Under the supervision of mid-level and senior level risk assessors, you will work primarily on projects in the United States for clients including federal (USEPA, Department of Defense), mining and other industrial, and with contaminant classes including metals, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and petroleum, chlorinated organics, pesticides, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and more. The majority of your duties will be office-based, but you may be expected to travel to some project sites where you will participate in site characterization activities that can support human health risk assessments. Additionally, your duties can also include providing support to senior staff that communicate project results to clients and other stakeholders, including the regulatory community.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, toxicology, public health, environmental science or other closely related technical degree.

  • Software skills - Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) and statistical software.

  • Open to occasional travel.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to think strategically and critically analyze details.

  • Strong networking/self-promoting skills.

  • One to two years of professional experience preferred, preferably in consulting, working on biology, toxicology, and/or environmental science projects.
