  • Assessment: Conducts cardiopulmonary exercise testing and pulmonary function testing according to established guidelines. Modifies test protocols over time as standards evolve. Develops and modifies patient/diagnosis specific testing protocols and individualized patient exercise prescriptions for provider review. Assesses patient response and test analytics. May review findings with physicians. Performs invasive and non-invasive measurements of gas exchange. Draws arterial blood gases.

  • Analysis: Reviews test results to ensure validity and quality. Independently analyzes data and test measures and generates clinical reports. Utilizes computerized medical record reporting system to review patient history and obtain previous test results to maximize safety of the exercise test. Reviews patient history to determine who may be at high risk during the study. Notifies physician/fellow of pending patient tests. Ensures lab is prepared and safety parameters have been followed. Provides accurate preliminary reports for physician utilization. Presents information obtained from test results to healthcare providers’ team. Makes recommendations to requesting provider regarding further testing. Performs first echelon maintenance and calibration of medical instruments for exercise testing and data analysis.

  • Therapy: Conducts exercise therapy and fitness training in accordance with rehabilitation programs as ordered by providers. Ensures patient schedule meets prescribed wellness plan.

  • Training: Provides training materials, in-service training and programming on exercise physiology for instruction of Fellow, student interns, and allied health personnel including pulmonary function technicians.

  • Research: May assist providers with analyzing data and test measurements for research projects. Participates in data management and analysis for research projects and publications/presentations. Assists with the preparation and presentation of scientific reports (abstracts, manuscripts and articles) and manuals. May collaborate with other investigators within organization, and in the community wishing to use the resources of the pulmonary exercise physiology lab.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in exercise science, kinesiology or directly related field is required, Master's Degree preferred

  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.

  • The analytical skills to gather and interpret data

  • The ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies.

    Physical Requirements:

    Frequently lifting and carrying patients/children and/or objects weighing up to 10 pounds, regularly sitting, stooping and bending, regularly reaching and grasping objects at, above and below shoulder level, regularly grasping and fine manipulation with hands, regularly proofreading and checking documents for accuracy, regularly inputting/retrieving words or data into or from an automated/computer system.
