State of Massachusetts Facility Service Worker II in Boston, Massachusetts

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking an experienced and committedFacility Service Worker.

The Facility Service Worker II cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming and washing, cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings and windows, cleans lavatories, wash rooms, mop closets. Operates equipment specific to an Environmental Services Department i.e. floor machines, Kai Vac, Automatic scrubbers, high speed burnishers, etc.

*Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): *

  • Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.

  • Cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, etc. by dusting, polishing and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.

  • Cleans toilets, lavatories, wash rooms, mop closets, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of such areas.

  • Empties waste receptacles and disposes of general waste and infectious and hazardous waste.

  • Cleans furniture such as beds, dressers, chairs, tables, over bed tables, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of these items.

  • Strip, scrubs, seals and finishes floors as required using appropriate supplies and equipment.

  • Remakes beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies.

  • Removes and re-hang window draperies and bedside curtains as required, to maintain appearance and cleanliness.

  • Operates specific battery powered equipment designed to wash, scrub and polish hard floor surfaces. Must follow manufacturers’ operational procedures, equipment maintenance procedures and safety procedures.

  • Sets up and breaks down conference rooms for meetings and other functions.

  • Follow the policy/procedure for Terminal Cleaning in patient rooms upon discharge and long term care patients (at the designated interval set forth by policy).

  • Inspects assigned areas to ensure work has been performed following established procedures.

Shift Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Days Off: Wednesday and Thursday

LSH takes pride in helping people recover from illnesses and conditions that are often underserved or difficult to manage in other health care settings. The Hospital serves populations that are mostly indigent, often in the care and custody of state agencies, and present with clinical issues that arise from mental illness, homelessness, and substance abuse. LSH provides 260 inpatient beds and 25 specialty medical clinics, including surgical services, to patients and clients referred by private sector providers and state agencies (including the Department of Public Health (DPH), the Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDS), and the Department of Corrections (DOC). We strive continuously to improve the quality of life for our patients through the delivery of collaborative treatment and a patient-focused continuum of care. Teaching professionals from various health disciplines always have been a part of the hospital’s charge as well.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in building custodial or institutional housekeeping work.
