Boston University Faculty Positions in Film and Television Production, College of Communication, Boston University in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Department of Film and Television at Boston University’s College of Communication is conducting a search for three positions in production. We seek to hire an Assistant Professor, an Associate Professor of the Practice, and a Full Professor of the Practice. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in directing, producing, cinematography, production and/or location and post-production sound.

Required Skills

Qualified applicants will be distinguished practitioners with a significant body of professional work and an enthusiasm for teaching. An advanced degree and a background teaching at the university level is preferred. Classes might include beginning through advanced: scripted production, line producing, cinematography, directing, and sound design.

A faculty member with substantial experience in both location sound mixing and post-production sound is particularly needed, so one of these positions will be designated for a candidate with such qualifications.

Our university community welcomes differences, encourages open-minded exploration, and upholds freedom of expression. The department believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. To that end, we are especially eager to have colleagues join our ranks who support our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, and diverse.

Duties require teaching three courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate level plus service and committee work. Department faculty are also encouraged to propose and develop new courses in their field of expertise.

DO NOT APPLY THROUGH THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY HR WEBSITE.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a resume or CV, the names and contact information for three references and a letter that includes a personal statement on teaching philosophy. If the candidate has university teaching experience, course evaluations from the three most recent semesters taught should be included in the application. Links to samples of creative work should also be included.

Electronic applications should be sent to ftsearch@bu.edu and addressed to Ali Audet, Department Administrator.

These are non-tenure track positions with an initial three-year, renewable appointment. Deadline for applications is November 1, 2024.

Questions may be directed to search co-chairs Tim Palmer (tmpalmer@bu.edu) and Gustavo Rosa (grosa@bu.edu). All inquiries will be kept confidential.

BU conducts a background check on all final candidates for certain faculty and staff positions. The background check includes contacting the final candidate’s current and previous employer(s) to ask whether, in the last seven years, there has been a substantiated finding of misconduct violating that employer’s applicable sexual misconduct policies. To implement this process, the University requires a final candidate to complete and sign the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” after execution of an offer letter.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status.
