The Environmental Science and Studies program within the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, Environment, and Physics (BiCEP) at Suffolk University is hiring a full-time Instructor with expertise in geographic information science (GIS) . Qualified c andidates will have experience in teaching at the undergraduate level and some demonstrated prior training or experience in GIS . Prior practical GIS experience is a plus .

Regular t eaching responsibilities include lecture and laboratory courses in introductory undergraduate GIS . In addition, the faculty member w ill teach introductory undergraduate lectures or labs in Environmental Science, Geology , Chemistry and/ or Physics. The standard teaching load is four lectures and/or labs per semester. Full-time Non-tenure track faculty are also expected to engage in service activities including advis ing undergraduate students majoring in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies and providing service to the department, college, and/or University .

The successful candidate will contribute to Suffolk’s rich tradition of community-engaged teaching and experiential education that prepares our diverse, substantially first-generation college students—40% of whom are Pell-eligible—for careers and civic engagement. The successful candidate will have a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and curricular diversity, mentoring and advising students—especially first-generation college students—as well as conducting impactful research with undergraduates.

Candidates should hold a Masters or a PhD in a relevant field by the commencement of the 2024/2025 academic year. Appointment will begin July 1, 2024 and teaching and service responsibilities will commence with the start of the 2024/25 academic year.
