The Division of Genetics and Genomics is seeking a full-time research genetic counselor to manage innovative projects focused on cutting-edge clinical genomics research. This role directly supports the Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research, which is devoted to the study of rare disease through genomic sequencing, translational research, and gene discovery. As a project manager of The Manton Center Gene Discovery Core, the genetic counselor will oversee all aspects of the study, including patient enrollment, case review, genomic analysis, return of results and coordination with BCH clinical staff on individual cases as well as broader collaborations. The genetic counselor will be an integral member of The Manton Center’s dynamic team of physicians, researchers, genetic counselors, and bioinformaticians.

This Genetic Counselor I will be responsible for:
Overseeing daily operations of research studies related to The Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research.
Acts as liaison between principal investigators, study participants, study staff and project collaborators.
Contributes to the maintenance and development of research protocols and/or consent forms as required for review by the Institutional Review Board.
Responds to inquiries related to research eligibility and procedures, diagnostic evaluations, hereditary risks and genetic testing within scope of research project.
Helps supervise a team of research assistants who execute participant recruitment enrollment and aid in enrollment and informed consent of eligible individuals/families when appropriate.
Provides genetic counseling to individuals and families. Collects and interprets family/medical history, clinical, and genetic findings for research studies.
Monitors and maintains systems, including databases, for data collection to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of study operations and data management. Conducting testing of data validity, and identifies and resolves errors or discrepancies.
Oversees sample collection, documentation, and send out for genomic studies
Manages genomic data workflows, alongside the phenotypic data, to ensure proper data storage and collection to support genomic data analysis on various pipelines and data sharing with collaborators
Complete genomic data analysis and variant interpretation
Develops and participates in genetics education programs for physicians, other health professionals and lay populations. Trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate level counseling students.
Collaborates in developing written documents and web-based materials for a variety of purposes including journal publications and conference presentations.
Organize monthly seminars and annual grand rounds, collaborate on matters of program funding, and manages calls for grant submissions.
In order to qualify, you must have:
Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling
Current Massachusetts license as a Genetic Counselor **
Current Genetic Counselor certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling or from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. **
Previous experience in clinical research is a plus.
