Job Description:

As a member of our geotechnical team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

 Providing leadership, management, and technical expertise for a wide variety of multidisciplinary projects including dams and reservoirs, levees and floodwalls, heavy-civil works, and other infrastructure projects.

 Maintaining liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization

 Acting independently on technical matters pertaining to your specialty field

 Visualizing and assuming responsibility for new business development activities within your areas of expertise

 Expanding dams and levees-related geotechnical business to complement the other CDM Smith business lines

 Working as a recognized leader of technical and professional staff

 Being actively involved in the Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) and/or U.S. Society on Dams (USSD)

 Acting as mentor for lower-level employees

 Planning, developing, coordinating, evaluating progress and results obtained, and recommending major changes to achieve overall objectives of several large and important projects or a project of major scope and complexity

 Directing the work of a staff of up to 5 engineers and technicians

 Serving as a technical specialist in the application of advanced geotechnical engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes for wide range in multidisciplinary projects

 Keeping abreast of new methods and developments in the field of geotechnical engineering affecting CDM Smith engineering practice to recommend changes

Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or -Geologic Engineering or related discipline.

-Professional engineering (PE) license.

-10 years of related experience.

-Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

-Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Engineering emphasis, or Engineering Geology/Mining Engineering.

  • Experience in all types of subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, foundation engineering, analysis, engineering report writing, preparation of contract documents.

  • Experience with risk-informed decision making methods for dams.

Skills and Abilities:

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
