This is what you will do:
The Global Congress Excellence Partner is part of the Commercial Excellence team within the Global Commercial department. This role will be a part of a team whose main focus is to drive a streamlined, centralized, and harmonized end-to-end experience, across TAs, and for all stakeholders at Alexion’s Global Tier 1 Congresses. This role will support maximizing congresses as a key channel to implement disease strategy and to advance the care of patients suffering from rare and devasting diseases.
The individual in this role is a strategic leader, who connects disease strategy to congress planning and execution by collaborating with a network of cross-functional partners at Alexion and AstraZeneca. The Global Congress Excellence Partner will be responsible for alignment on congress presence that will enable compliant, efficient, and effective activities across the Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease (RDU) portfolio.
This leader will be expected to communicate broadly within the organization, including with Senior Leadership, on the overall objectives of the congress strategy, pre-defined KPIs/metrics and post congress insights gathered.
The individual must be highly collaborative and thrive in a matrix environment, working with colleagues from various functions, and geographies while maintaining agility when focusing on assets at different development stages. They must be able to balance numerous simultaneous stakeholders and can create and enhance relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The Global Congress Excellence Partner and team works closely with the Therapeutic Areas (Commercial and Medical) at Global, Regional and Country levels as well as the Launch Excellence, Competitive Intelligence, US Meeting & Events teams. The Global Congress Excellence Partner will report to the Head of Global Congress Excellence.
You will be responsible for:
Congress Strategy & Excellence – 40%
Drive alignment of congress strategy for congresses with a Global reach with cross-functional colleagues, based on Disease Strategic Planning & prioritization
Partner with the Head of Global Congress Excellence to lead the Tiering process during disease strategic planning
Act as strategic thought partner to the assigned therapeutic areas
Connect with cross-functional teams to define objectives & success measures and how we want to “show up” at Global reach congresses
Internal congress expert, advising teams on sponsorship level, investment, and congress activities, including booth space, booth design, symposia and sustainability considerations
Develop and share congress plans
Support teams through the application of lessons learned and best practices connecting operational excellence
Continually improve and harmonize the congress planning process across TAs
Support the Head of Congress Excellence with the creation of a congress playbook, ongoing development of SOPs, and documenting best practices
Congress Execution Planning Partner– 60%
Act as a Project Manager for specific Global Tier 1 congresses
Lead the strategic planning & execution of Global Tier 1 congress activity, partnering with the functions across the TAs and Regions including the US Meetings & Events team to execute on time, on plan, and on budget objectives, includes: sponsorship ideation, booth design and placement, internal attendance process & communications, KOL engagement coordination, congress pre-/post-meetings, etc.
Provide strategic direction to external vendors for each congress (meeting management, booth, all technology)
Identify & track the congress budget related to specific Tier 1 congresses managed
Ensure consistent Alexion experience across TAs & with AZ (where applicable)
Coordinate all pre- and post-congress briefs and internal trainings
Create individualized KPI metrics and reports per congress
Create & manage an activity plan with the team and to provide overall real-time progress tracking and flag areas for deep dives
Build and maintain a project communications channel for all congress planning & execution documentation
Travel to all assigned Global Tier 1 congresses (up to 10 in a year)
The incumbent may be asked to perform other function-related activities in addition to the above-mentioned responsibilities as reasonably required by business needs.
You will need to have:
Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field
8+ years of commercial experience in the healthcare industry that may include Congress/Meeting Management, Marketing, Project Management, Corporate Strategy, & Consulting
Fluency in English
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to travel both domestically & internationally 30% of the year, including weekends
Knowledge of PhRMA Code and Transparency Reporting (Sunshine Act)
Knowledge of trends, technologies and best practices in the healthcare association industry
Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly in Excel, PPT and Teams
