Alexion Pharmaceuticals Head of Commercial & Indirect Strategic Sourcing in Boston, Massachusetts
This role is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter to join Alexion as a founding member of a passionate Global Strategic Sourcing team building its way to world-class. We are seeking a seasoned sourcing and procurement leader to collaboratively define and deliver Category Management, Sourcing Execution, Stakeholder Relationship Management and Supplier Relationship Management capabilities in support of Alexion’s Commercial and G&A teams. You will serve on Alexion’s Global Strategic Sourcing Leadership Team (GSSLT), bringing a strong mix of experience, strategic vision, and a proven ability to organize, engage, and motivate teams to deliver results.
Capability Development & Execution
Understand Alexion’s evolving Commercial and Indirect support requirements for Category Management, Sourcing Execution, Stakeholder Relationship Management and Supplier Relationship Management in a global context.
Own the vision for the core services and execute as necessary to make that vision a reality.
Develop a service delivery model that is easy to understand and use, featuring timely, consistent, dependable, high-quality outcomes. Both strategic vision and tactical execution are key to success in this role.
Define the organizational support model required to deliver the core services, hire and manage a highly collaborative team capable of delivering world-class services.
Ensure a data-driven approach based on data integrity, high-quality analytics, and accurate savings reporting, ultimately delivering recommendations based on “decision-quality” data.
Draw on best practices to aid in development and implementation of standard processes, tools, and templates in support of a rapidly growing company.
Be knowledgeable in market trends across best practices and for various categories of spend under management. Use this knowledge to manage your team, establish strong Category Management, and drive a high standard of excellence.
Establish a Sourcing Execution capability, potentially including outsourced models, aimed at optimizing deal throughput while delivering efficient (cost/ process) outcomes.
Working with key business partners, establish Supplier Relationship Management processes and cadence for key strategic suppliers.
Actively support the development of a systems roadmap in support of efficient processes, including automation and self-service.
Support the definition, implementation, and management of key purchasing and payment channels, including P-cards, and T&E cards.
Leverage continuous improvement skills to mature and optimize service delivery with a focus on partnership and customer service, data-driven decision-making, quality and speed, process- and cost-efficiency.
Oversee projects on an ad hoc basis as necessary to further Alexion’s Sourcing & Procurement needs.
Identify, develop, and manage strategic business relationships with key stakeholders, including Commercial and functional G&A leadership, as well as suppliers.
Foster a team culture rooted in subject matter expertise, partnership, collaboration, and focused service delivery, ultimately helping our stakeholders and patients to succeed.
Develop services that are easy to understand, access and use, supported by intuitive delivery models, efficient communication channels, and training as necessary.

A minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in Category Management & Strategic Sourcing in a GxP-based life sciences environment.
BS in Business, Finance or Supply Chain. MBA Preferred.
C.P.M. or equivalent professional certification preferred.
Strong subject matter expertise and a passion for all things sourcing, including Category Management, Sourcing Execution, Stakeholder Relationship Management, and Supplier Relationship Management. You are a Sourcing & Procurement professional because love what you do, and it shows!

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
MBA or other relevant graduate degree desirable but not required.
