Summary The Fisher House Program provides temporary accommodations and support for families, support persons and Caregivers of Veterans and Active Duty Military receiving treatment at major military and VA medical facilities. VA Fisher House accommodations are provided at no cost to guests and located within walking distance of the treatment facility. The Fisher House Manager serves as supervisor of the Fisher House program. Responsibilities This position is located at the West Roxbury, MA campus and falls under the Office of the Director. A key function of each Fisher House Manager is to oversee the day to day operation of the Fisher House. Typical responsibilities include: Developing policies, instructions, and procedures for successful operation of the Fisher House, including referrals and day-to-day operations. The Fisher House Manager is responsible for the financial, operations and managerial processes involved with the Fisher House program. Utilizes resources to effectively and efficiently maintain services to achieve VA facility, Fisher House Foundation and VHA program goals. The Fisher House Manager accounts for house guests, numerous volunteers and employees and provides morning updates to leadership and directly to the National Fisher House Program as requested on house usage and availability status daily. The Fisher House Manager is responsible for providing a comfortable environment for Veterans, Active Duty Service members, their family members and caregivers to relax and socialize during the Veteran's hospitalization or extended episode of care. The Fisher House Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the Fisher House Program to include creating and maintaining a staffing schedule, creating and maintaining an activity calendar; scheduling activities and volunteer events to support Fisher House guests; and scheduling transportation for Veterans and families. The Fisher House Manager Serves as a primary medical facility representative and community partner liaison to the community at large regarding Fisher House matters. The Fisher House Manager coordinates with the Chief of Voluntary Services (VAVS) to manage donations from public or private donors of expendable and non-expendable/durable items, securing appropriate thank you letters or responses from the VA facility designee for these contributions. The Fisher House Manager provides administrative and task supervision to staff, volunteers and contractors assigned to the Fisher House program. The Fisher House Manager oversees the orientation of new Fisher House guests, employees, volunteers & contractors maintaining a thorough knowledge of the operation of all medical facility outpatient clinics and in-patient units and acting as a liaison between administrative and clinical staff. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/16/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Housing Manager, Supervisory Financial Planning, Landlord, and/or Non-Profit Organization Management. Analysis and Problem Solving Communications Customer Service Financial Management Lead or Supervise Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work is generally sedentary; however, it requires a fair amount of standing, walking, walking upand down steps, and bending. The Housing Manager may be required to approximately lift 25-50 lbs. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
