Reports to: Director of Language Access Services Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. As the Language Access Compliance Analyst, your role will be pivotal in ensuring adherence to language access regulations and guidelines. Our unwavering commitment is to guarantee equitable access to services for individuals with limited English proficiency and diverse linguistic backgrounds. Responsibilities: Policy Implementation Review current language access policies and procedures to ensure alignment with local, state, and federal regulations. Stay updated on changes in language access laws and guidelines and adapt organizational policies accordingly. Analyze BPS staff knowledge of language access service offerings, determining deficiencies utilizing surveys and evaluation programming strategies. Collaborate with the Director of OLAS to address trends in need of action through tailored training proposals. Develop and outline research-based protocol improvements/modifications for complying with federal, state, and local mandates regarding language assistance services for non-English speaking families. Training and Education Develop language access training modules for district-wide consumption to improve compliance with regulatory requirements. Conduct training sessions for staff, fostering a heightened understanding of language access services and requirements. Provide guidance on cultural competency to support effective communication with families from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Train and monitor school-specific Language Access Plans to ensure completion and adherence. Strategic Coordination and Collaboration Strategically collaborate with various departments to ensure the integration of language assistance service utilization into programming and services. Consult with the Director and other stakeholders regarding language access-related policies and processes, offering recommendations on compliance, training, and guides. Equity Focus Ensure that language access initiatives are guided by equity principles using the BPS Racial Equity Planning Tool to provide services with impartiality and fairness. Advocate and implement strategies that promote equal access for all, regardless of language or disability. Assessment, Monitoring, and Reporting Support the evaluation of current language assistance service offerings and programs, conduct studies, and implement corrective action plans based on data-driven decision-making to improve existing services. Support developing and maintaining the OLAS districtwide Language Access Dashboard, providing stakeholders access to language assistance service utilization metrics. Oversee the maintenance of meticulous records of language access services and dashboards, ensuring accurate and current compliance documentation. Prepare reports that communicate completed and ongoing language access efforts, patterns, and trends in the utilization of language assistance services Qualifications - Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field or a minimum of 3 years of experience in Language Access, Interpretation, Translation, or related experience Highly computer literate and mastery of Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google products. Proactive, creative, and tenacious problem solver with experience in organizing others to accomplish goals. Experience and comfort engaging community members in various formats, including one-on-one, small groups, and public settings. Knowledge of language access laws, regulations, and best practices. Experience in language access training and education. Excellent communication skills, navigating complex interactions with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to balance multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced team environment. Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to work effectively individually and in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment. Current authorization to work in the United States. Commitment to gaining a greater understanding of urban school systems for continuous improvement. Deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education Qualifications - Preferred: Second Language Proficiency in Arabic, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Somali, or Vietnamese. Familiarity with desktop publishing software (InDesign, QuarkXPress, Framemaker, or Canva) Familiarity and/or working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to language access.
