Alexion Pharmaceuticals Launch Planning Partner, VISion in Boston, Massachusetts

This position can be based from any of the following Alexion locations; San Francisco, CA, Boston, MA, New Haven, CT, or Blue Bell, PA or be remote/virtual, based anywhere in the United states and may require up to 20% travel.

Position Summary

The Launch Planning Partner will drive projects, generate insights, and make recommendations that will enable compliant, efficient, and effective execution of product launch preparation across Alexion’s portfolio to support successful launch of 10 products by 2023. The individual will be an internal champion for a recently established, enterprise-wide launch model. The individual will enable teams to set up, track and communicate on launch planning progress through the development of dashboards, KPIs/metrics and reports that reflect readiness and leading indicators of launch success. The individual will be responsible for maintaining the launch planning tool and generating new launch plan templates, when required. Importantly, the individual will identify lessons learned from each launch, share them across geographies and assets, and leverage them to evolve existing models/tools and create new ones. The individual will work closely with the launch teams to populate cross-functional launch plans. This position is highly visible among Alexion’s executive team, given its impact on the company’s growth. This individual will be highly collaborative and thrive in a matrix environment, working with colleagues from various functions and focused on assets at different development stages. The Launch Planning Partner will be part of the Commercial Excellence team within VISion (Value, Insights and Strategy) and report to the Global Launch Planning Lead.

Principal Responsibilities

Launch Plan Creation/Launch Coordination – 40%

  • Acts as a Project Manager for specific Global and/or US launches

  • Facilitates timely and accurate inputs into the launch planning tool for real-time progress tracking and flags areas for deep dives

  • Is a “connector” to other relevant processes including Strategic Planning, Tactical Planning to enable seamless launch planning

  • Drives partnership with Global, Regional and Country launch teams to generate plans leveraging the Alexion launch model and based on product strategy

  • Supports teams through the application of lessons learned and best practices propelling operational excellence

Launch Insights and Analytics -30%

  • Communicates launch planning progress to leadership leveraging outputs from the dashboards and strategic analysis to assess the launch readiness

  • Distills lessons learned from each launch including pinpointing impactful deliverables and relevant timing to enable effective launches

  • Identifies updates for the launch model based on lessons learned

  • Creates/consolidates dashboards, KPIs/metrics, and reports on launch planning progress across geographies and the portfolio and provide actionable insights and recommendations to achieve launch readiness at key milestones

  • Generates, in collaboration with launch teams, custom dashboards and reports to monitor and assess launch readiness

Systems and Training – 30%

  • Is the “System Administrator” of the launch planning tool including managing ad hoc requests/support needs from teams on Smartsheet

  • Maintains and makes updates to launch planning templates and plans, as required

  • Performs onboarding training of Smartsheet

  • Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues to align system solutions and data (e.g. launch dates), formalizing and updating processes, as necessary

  • Contributes to the development and sustainability of an intranet website dedicated to the launch model

The incumbent may be asked to perform other function-related activities in addition to the above-mentioned responsibilities as reasonably required by business needs.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field, demonstrating an aptitude in science

  • 5+ years of commercial experience in the healthcare industry that may include Marketing, Project Management, Business Analytics, Business Development, Corporate Strategy and/or Financial Analysis, Consulting

  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly in Excel and PPT

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business background or advanced quantitative discipline degree preferred

  • Prior experience in rare diseases

  • Experience with launching products

  • Familiarity with Smartsheet


  • Detail-oriented, self-starter, able to work both independently and in a team environment in person and virtually

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop internal and external networks

  • Strong customer-service aptitude; comfort level and at ease working cross-culturally, cross-geographically, and with differing workstyles

  • Collaborates effectively with leaders at varied levels within the organization to execute on key and high visibility projects

  • Communicates in an impactful way with strong written and verbal communication skills
