Humana Lead Infrastructure Architect - Disaster Recovery in Boston, Massachusetts

The Infrastructure Architect Lead for Disaster Recovery is a SME focused on infrastructure architecture of cloud and on-prem DR in accordance with established DR strategy. DR Lead actively participates in architecture review of applications and is responsible to provide disaster recovery solution design, technical architecture and strategies to support achievement of Humana’s recovery objectives. Candidate will provide technical guidance to infrastructure and application partners and will influence and ensure alignment with IT standards, strategies and compliance with the IT roadmap. Architect will assess disaster recovery products and solutions, manage vendor relationships, provide recommendations and have direct influence over product/solution selection. Responsible to articulate and relate complex technology material to a variety of stakeholders. Drive the definition and adoption of DR reference architectures and standards. Architect defines and communicates DR process, develops and supports DR compliance including architectural patterns, tool selection, monitoring and operational practices. Architect works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

The Lead Infrastructure Architect performs technical planning, architecture development and modification of specifications. Develops specifications for new IT infrastructure products and service offerings. Assesses the compatibility and integration of products/services proposed as standards in order to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

  • Inform and educate DR Program team and partners in IT and the business on recovery solutions and how they relate to meeting business objectives.

  • Support/advise the DR team in the assessment and execution of remediation projects to address gaps and new requirements for on-prem and in the cloud.

  • Advise and participate in key initiatives to ensure DR is embedded in IT strategies consistently.

  • Actively participate in and provide input/approval to AS IS TO BE enterprise cloud architecture reviews

  • Drive and develop the DR roadmap and analyze risks, benefits and opportunities associated with DR strategies to be a champion of a balanced approach focused on resilience and operational functionality.

  • Lead and build consensus among infrastructure and application teams.

  • Architect will stay current on emerging market trends in solution and enterprise architecture.

  • Conduct research, POCs and pilots on DR products to identify solutions to address DR requirements.

  • Drive definition and adoption of DR reference architectures and standards.

  • Produce usable documentation that translate business requirements to technology designs and solutions with ongoing management of technical solution architecture artifacts.

  • Main point of contact representing DR within the Tech Modernization Program supporting all disaster recovery requirements for applications, infrastructure and services migrating to the cloud

  • Ensure application migrations are properly tiered and align to tier-based recovery strategies

  • Engage with business and IT partners to educate and advocate for DR driving greater understanding and business resilience awareness

  • Define consistent, repeatable process for application intake, tier, documentation for recovery plan and recovery testing, test performance and issue management and ongoing maintenance and compliance in alignment with overall DR Program

  • Support audit and compliance requests for recovery strategies

  • Work successfully as a member of a leader team through collaboration and support

  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate with internal and external resources.

  • Manage priorities in a fast-paced environment using discernment, organization, structure and time management.

  • Provide project leadership for the purpose of planning, directing, controlling, developing and maintaining the Disaster Recovery program.

  • Remain current on emerging market and technology trends in solution and architecture

  • Conduct research, POCs and pilots on DR products and services to identify solutions to address DR requirements

  • Knowledge of Crisis Management, Business Continuity and Event Management practices

  • Understands that Disaster Recovery professionals can be called in to support test exercises or unplanned outages off regular business hours as necessary

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable to report progress, status and other pertinent information to partners and leaders

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SharePoint) with an ability to produce and present professional documents

  • Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision

  • Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determines best course of action

  • Able to deliver messaging to senior leadership as necessary related to DR activities, project progress and program strategy.

  • Actively participates in projects and assists DR team in technical queries.

  • Able to work autonomously

  • Limited travel required (no more than 20%)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of disaster recovery / business continuity experience

  • 7+ years of infrastructure and operations experience

  • 2+ years of cloud experience

  • 3 or more years of project leadership experience

  • Experience integrating new technologies with existing technologies

  • Experience implementing technologies with enterprise-wide impact

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certification

  • CBCP preferred

  • Advanced Cloud certification

  • ITIL certification

  • PMP or PMI certification

  • Master's Degree in a Technical Field

Work-At-Home Requirements

  • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.

  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.

  • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.

  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$129,300 - $177,800 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
