Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Lead, User Enablement & Product Management, Analytics and Generative AI Platforms in Boston, Massachusetts
Reporting to the Director of Data Platform and Analytics Enablement, in the Department of Informatics & Analytics, the Lead, User Enablement and Product Management, Analytics and Generative AI Platforms establishes Institute-wide communities of practice, championing our operational platforms by building user engagement through proactive coaching and mentorship, community events, and organizing literacy training workshops. The Lead will serve as an educator, community listener, product leader, and partner to thousands of staff across the Institute, enabling them to effectively and efficiently turn these cutting-edge platforms and their data into positive impacts for patients and staff.
The Lead also serves as product manager for several of our highest-growth platforms, such as our generative AI platform, GPT4DFCI, and Tableau, synthesizing feedback and needs from our user base and leadership into thoughtful, prioritized, and aligned product roadmaps. As product manager, the Lead partners with engineering owners & AI experts in the department to organize development, testing, and deployment in the broader platform and solution architecture while guiding maintenance and support. Furthermore, the Lead uses their expertise to bring thought-leadership on emerging technologies such as generative business intelligence and AI-powered data preparation.

I&A is a core component of the Institute, using data, AI, and software to drive operational innovation that is accelerating DFCI’s mission to defy cancer and improve the lives of our patients, caregivers, and staff. Dana-Farber has embraced the capabilities of AI and Analytics as a core enabler of this mission, with thousands of users on our generative AI platform, GPT4DFCI, and another large group of users consuming data and insights in our data visualization and analytics platforms.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
User enablement and community outreach:
Develops and delivers educational and enablement programs to enhance data and generative AI literacy, tool competencies, proper governance, and promote a data-enabled culture across the Institute. These programs will offer several levels of competencies to meet users where they are with approachable content and proper support to ensure successful real-world application of new skills learned.
Builds and leads self-sustaining communities of practice for data, analytics, and generative AI, open to anyone at the Institute with curiosity and emerging or advanced competencies
Creates engaging calendars for these communities with events like hackathons, guest speakers, solution showcases, and bite-sized skill learnings; as well as mechanisms for coaching and user support such as office-hours, support tickets, and development of a peer skill-coaching network.
Establishes themself as an Institute Analytics and AI thought leader, bringing expertise and impeccable communication on what’s possible and not possible with these capabilities, including knowledge of recent advancements, established methods, the pathways to success, and helping staff to see the “art of the possible”. Actively coaches and develops fellow team members within Informatics and Analytics to achieve maturity in Analytics and AI capabilities to meet the expanding needs of their stakeholders.
Partners with peers to support the development of I&A’s Institutional AI Literacy Program at scale, including directly leading training workshop sessions and creating training course materials, measurably increasing capabilities of hundreds of employees.
Serve as primary contact for I&A to senior-level stakeholders and manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels, with support from Director.
Product management of Analytics and AI platforms:
Elicits functional requirements from end users, department leaders, and other staff within Informatics & Analytics, utilizing methods such as user interviews, mockups, use cases, and communities of practice surveys.
Investigates, understands, and measures the value our platforms create, and communicates this value to stakeholders to support resource investments that enable product roadmaps.
Develops and maintains multi-year product roadmaps with prioritization input from Executive Steering Committee members.
Maintains knowledge of generative AI and Analytics at a high-level by keeping abreast of the latest advancements and applications, and routinely attending external conferences and community events.
Provides thought-leadership on emerging technologies such as generative BI, AI-enabled data flows, etc.
Establishes comprehensive observability and KPIs for platforms to understand trends in user behavior, feature-usage, performance, and reliability.
Develops best practices and monitoring of platforms to ensure optimal performance, scalability, interoperability, reliability, and efficiency.
Collaborates with others in the product-management domain such as User-Experience Designers to deliver test suites for integration and end-to end testing, prototypes, wireframes, and GUI designs.
Proactively communicates and collaborates with internal system-support teams to analyze information needs and functional requirements and prioritize deliverables.
Leads technical discussions and reports project status to stakeholders and collaborators.
Communicates regular status updates on various project/program efforts to Informatics leadership, project sponsors, business owners, and internal stakeholders, and manages competing expectations.
Coordinates regular product team meetings to discuss team and project/program related activities, issues, changes, and communications as needed.
Supports the development of a comprehensive strategy to enable governed self-service across managed platforms, providing the ability for more people to put data and generative AI to use quickly, reliably, securely, and safely.
Embeds continuous improvement processes in product solution designs, ways of working, and the solution consulting practice built ensuring durable products that provide long-term value.
Adheres to agile product development methodologies.
Mentors and provides guidance to junior and new team members.
Acts as a responsible steward of DFCI and I&A financial resources. Consistently complies with DFCI and I&A spending and accounting policies.
May have budget responsibility up to $1.0M, under the oversight of area leadership.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This role may have 1-3 direct reports and serves as an expert-leader of their space.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Business, Engineering). Master's degree preferred.
7 years of relevant experience in a mix of software product management (SPM) and data/analytics/AI/software engineering roles. 5 years of experience preferred in biomedical, healthcare, healthtech, or life sciences industry.
3+ years of hands-on experience analyzing data using tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, Alteryx/Dataiku and a strong understanding of cloud data warehousing required.
Proficiency in gathering and communicating requirements bi-directionally between users and technical software and data engineering teams.
Direct experience building and leading engaged communities of practice for data, generative AI, and/or analytics.
Demonstrable understanding of generative AI technologies, including expert-level prompt engineering skills, and motivation for staying up to date on the latest advancements.
3 years of direct people management and/or program, project, or user community leadership experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Excellent understanding of software development and platform management and ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
Strong understanding in best practices for solution design for data, generative AI, informatics, and/or software development use cases including technical architecture, and the interactions between systems including working knowledge of data platforms, the AI tech stack, and the software development lifecycle.
Experience designing technical solutions in partnership with development teams for monitoring and management of large-scale custom software applications.
Accomplished project, program, and portfolio manager, with excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, quality, and compliance.
Ability to assess budgetary needs for project proposals.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent user support, meet users where they are, speak their language, and guide them to expand their capabilities.
Understanding of the concepts and processes required to design and lead compelling education and training programs for audiences of varying levels of technical maturity.
Experience fostering stakeholder teams to reach their full potential through change management, risk mitigation, and strategic planning.
