The Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Senior Manager, Facilities Engineering and is directly responsible for the efficient, safe, and continuous operations of the Plant Operational Equipment and utilities. This position is also responsible for the planning & supervision of and assignment of duties for a team of Maintenance Technicians and contractors for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, electronic, refrigeration and control systems related to manufacturing equipment and utilities in a Medical Device and Biologics facility to ensure conformance to established guidelines.

Supervise maintenance technicians and or outside contractors for the purpose of startup, commissioning, maintaining and repairing systems, manufacturing, processing, and packaging equipment in a highly regulated cGMP environment.

In this direct maintenance role, the work balance is 30% planning/scheduling and 70% on the floor supervision & participation of corrective and preventive maintenance of all Utilities, Manufacturing and laboratory equipment and systems at the Boston and Braintree manufacturing facilities.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Primary responsibilities are to:

  • Team Leadership

  • Supervise and lead a team of refrigeration, utility, and process equipment technicians.

  • Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to team members.

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Maintenance Oversight

  • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance tasks as needed.

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of critical refrigeration, utility, and process equipment.

  • Conduct investigations to diagnose equipment issues and develop effective repair strategies.

  • Personnel Management

  • Assign work tasks and responsibilities to technicians.

  • Monitor and track technician performance, ensuring work quality and efficiency.

  • Address performance issues and provide feedback and recognition.

  • Identifies, recommends and coordinates training needs for Maintenance Technicians.

  • Work Planning and Scheduling

  • Research and plan daily maintenance work to minimize downtime and disruptions to production.

  • Develop maintenance schedules and coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules.

  • Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment status.

  • Generate reports on equipment performance and maintenance outcomes.

  • Reviews preventive and corrective maintenance work orders performed by staff

  • Provide input on maintenance, calibration, and equipment SOPs.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards

  • Ensure proper documentation is completed to meet quality system requirements

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement upgrades and enhancements.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma, Vocational, Certification or Military Equivalent, Technical Bachelor’s degree preferred (Mechanical Engineering), with 0-2 years of experience managing a team

  • Experience in manufacturing maintenance (Biologics/Pharma/Regulated Industry Preferred)

  • Good writing and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting PLC systems, electrical systems, mechanical, pneumatic, & refrigeration systems

  • Knowledge on personal computer and software like MS Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Experience with CMMS software

  • Able to work with minimal supervision

  • Willing to be on an emergency standby schedule to handle emergency calls.

  • Must be available in emergency situations, and / or work flexible hours.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifting of up to 60 lbs.

  • Standing for two hours or more

  • Ability to wear and put on sterile gowning

  • Use of power tools and repair tools to perform service tasks and maintain facility

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Open office work area with light to moderate noise

  • Able to work in a cleanroom/ controlled environment with gowning
