First Realty Management Maintenance Technician, Union in Boston, Massachusetts

Full-time position available at Burbank Apartments for an individual skilled in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, boilers, and general maintenance work. This individual must work well independently and have the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Good communication skills are necessary. The individual should be service-minded and take pride in work.

  • This position reports to Jamillah Malone, Property Manager

  • Regularly scheduled hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. The regular schedule may change under articles 4.1 and 8.1 of the contract.

  • On-call responsibilities will be shared with other staff members

  • This position will perform work assignments subject to any applicable contract provisions.

  • This individual must work well independently and have the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

  • This position may be asked to perform work assignments at other sites, subject to any applicable contract provisions.

Job Functions:

  • Prepares vacant units by repairing, refurbishing, and cleaning (as needed) in accordance with site checklists, turnover schedules, and First Realty Management standards.

  • Assumes on-call responsibilities for lost keys and emergencies such as plumbing problems, electrical, etc., shared with others where applicable.

  • Respond to daily emergency and routine service work orders in a professional and timely manner.

  • Maintains the appearance of the site by collecting and discarding refuse from common areas and throughout the site on a daily basis.

  • Performs snow removal by shoveling, salt/sanding, and operating and maintaining appropriate equipment.

  • Performs preventative maintenance schedule per site requirements.

  • Participates in annual apartment inspections as assigned.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Responds to changes in organization and property by assuming additional responsibilities as needed, such as going to other sites, in accordance with the union contract Section 9.6 and posting provisions.

  • Works overtime as required for snow removal.

  • Maintains a clean and well-groomed appearance, and wears company-issued uniforms.

  • Is courteous to residents at all times.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, carpentry, and general repair and maintenance duties.

  • Ability to get to the site in a timely manner to respond to emergencies.

  • Ability to read product instructions and safety materials.

  • Ability to fill out and complete work orders accurately.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with site staff and residents.

  • Ability to follow directions.

  • Ability to operate snow equipment, such as trucks, skid loaders, and snow blowers safely and effectively.

  • Ability to safely operate power tools, such as saws and drills.

  • Must pass First Realty Management’s pre-employment physical before starting work.

Level of Education/Training/License: Valid driver's license, per site requirements.

Experience: Previous general maintenance or similar experience preferred.
