Our Digital Orthopedic Surgery team is bringing innovation to patient care. We are using robotics and digital tools for surgical teams to increase the performance, accuracy, and safety of surgical procedures. We are crafting an extensible operating room ecosystem to support our surgical products. Our vision is to build a process of continuous improvement through analysis of intra-operative and post-operative surgical data. We are dedicated to improving patient outcomes through the advancement of medical technology.

The Manager, Software Engineering and Product Security will play a key role in leading the development and implementation of key operating system changes, DevOps tools and processes, and other product security infrastructure to provide hardened operating systems and enhanced security in our digital and capital programs, including robotic surgery. In this role you will gain a deep understanding of our systems from both a technical perspective and the user’s viewpoint and guide your team in key areas that will ultimately enable our users to provide better patient outcomes. We are looking for a candidate who can lead, mentor, and motivate their team to successful product delivery. The candidate is flexible, self-motivated, curious and passionate about medical device development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of hardworking engineers focused on providing applications, operating systems, and infrastructure that provide software security and connectivity related controls

  • Provide valuable input for our software architecture to enable future enhancements and iterative releases on our platforms

  • Lead key process improvements and collaborations to improve productivity and ensure product security

  • Analyze security standards and collaborate with our enterprise level security partners to identify applicable security requirements for our products

  • Work with other leaders across software, robotics, and other specialists (clinical, system engineering, instruments, integration, human factors, labeling, manufacturing) as part of a focused multi-functional team

  • Collaborate with the other software teams responsible for clinical applications, system engineering, product management, and marketing teams to define requirements and validate features

  • Collaborate with internal and external third-party companies from both a business and technical perspective

  • Identify, manage and mitigate technical and project risk through coordination with teams in R&D and external collaborators

Qualifications

Education:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent degree is required

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 8 years of experience developing software products in a regulated environment, with experience managing direct reports

  • Strong understanding of software architecture and hardware integration

  • Experience with risk management and product issue management

  • Proven leadership and collaboration with distributed teams, including offshore resources

  • Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and ISO 62304

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and willingness to train other team members

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with FDA Cybersecurity Guidance

  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows in medical devices

  • Experience with C , C#, Python, Bash

  • Knowledge of secure software development concepts, and secure development life cycle principles

Location and Travel:

  • This position is based in Boston, MA - Flexible Work Arrangements are available

  • This position may require up to 10% domestic and international travel
