About the Mather The Mather Elementary School School is seeking a School Culture and Climate Manager. The Mather is the first public elementary school in North America that serves a racially, culturally and linguistically diverse student body in grades K1-6. Job Description The School Culture & Climate Manager will play a critical role in improving student performance at the Mather School by promoting a positive, safe, inclusive and affirming learning environment that fosters the intellectual identity of ALL students. In collaboration with administration, staff and school leadership teams, the School Culture and Climate Manager will lead the development and oversight of restorative practices, strategies and programs designed to strengthen school culture and climate and keep the school community safe. This will include supporting individual and school-wide crisis intervention, creating behavior systems, protocols and consequences in conjunction with the principal and leadership teams and capacity building around restorative practices. Through direct service with students and coaching support with staff, he/she/they will develop a strong rapport with students, families and faculty at the Mather. The School Culture and Climate Manager will also manage all operations in the school community including overseeing arrival and dismissal, supervising breakfast and lunch periods and staff, managing student attendance, enrollment and assignment, overseeing classroom coverage and coordinating transportation. REPORTS TO: Principal Responsibilities of the School Culture & Climate Manager include, but are not limited to: Climate/Culture System Coordination In collaboration with Climate and Support Teams, refine and implement school-wide systems and structures to promote a safe, positive, inclusive and affirming school community in which all students see themselves as thinkers, learners and achievers. This includes: Manage and align school community on school culture expectations using a multi-tiered system of support including a strong core and tier 2 and 3 interventions. This involves working with staff to support students who have been temporarily removed from class due to extreme dysregulation and escalation to mitigate exclusion and ensure consistent access to the least restrictive environment at all times. This also involves facilitating disciplinary hearings as needed. Collect, analyze and share data with Climate and Support Teams to assist in developing strategies for decreasing the number of behavioral incidents and referrals for support. Develop and support teachers and staff in the fidelity of implementation of restorative practices and strategies for whole class and small group. In collaboration with the Support Team, oversee behavioral/crisis response process and corresponding action steps (e.g. FBA administration, behavior support plan development, case management coordination, etc.) Continue to seek and build new partnerships in support of a positive school climate, with a focus on maximizing and aligning resources to meet student needs. Direct Service Plan and facilitate small groups to support pro-social skill development as identified through SST and Whole Class Reviews. Provide individual crisis response/de-escalation and support to students and communicate with such families as needed. Maintain an open line of communication with families to support the child and family’s needs. Build rapport with students who need behavioral support, checking in with students daily and providing relevant updates to families. Plan and facilitate restorative sessions with students and/or with students and staff in response to conflict and/or issues as they arise. Operations In order to promote a positive school climate, ensure the smooth, safe and orderly functioning of arrival and dismissal, breakfast and lunch periods, student attendance, enrollment and assignment, classroom coverage, transportation and safety drills. This includes: Facilitate and support at critical times of the day, such as breakfast, lunch and dismissal, in addition to overseeing cafeteria & lunch staff and bus monitors. Assume responsibility for every single scholar’s success by holding all students accountable during transitions, breakfast, lunch, arrival, dismissal, testing etc. Maintain data entry into SIS and other databases for both attendance and enrollment/assignment. Coordinate and communicate with grade level teams regarding plans for class coverage needs. Coordinate school transportation including arrival and dismissal schedule, daily log, alternative transportation, bus support, communication with First Students and bus drivers. Implement late bus arrival/dismissal procedures, including student supervision, communication with families, communication with transportation, etc. Work in collaboration with the Student Success and Support Teams to monitor BPS Attendance Policy, including ensuring teachers are following the policy, students are appropriately referred to SST and working with the Truancy Officer; case management of students w/ attendance issues. Work with appropriate staff at the school in revising and disseminating information in staff and student handbooks. Work with appropriate staff at the school to create and distribute the school safety plan (fire drills, containment, etc). Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Principal QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Bachelor’s degree At least 2-3 years experience managing elementary programs/school leadership and data collection At least 3 years experience in urban school system working with a racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse student body Experience working with students with disabilities and/or strong behavior management skills. ABA or Counseling/Social Work training/background preferred. Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the Mather’s vision, core values and educational model, full inclusion. Commitment to the success of all Matherl School students Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed Strong written and oral communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite Comfort and familiarity with student information databases (Aspen, SIS, etc) TERMS: Managerial Tier C Please refer to www.bostonpublicschools.org/ohc (under "Employee Benefits and Policies") for more information on salary and compensation. Salaries are listed by Unions and Grade/Step. NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement. School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
