Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Medical Technologist II - Hematology Laboratory in Boston, Massachusetts

The Hematology Medical Technologist II is responsible for performing all tests using our current automated hematology analyzers, manual test procedures, normal and abnormal differentials and histochemical staining of bone marrowe aspirates with minimal supervision as required. In addition it requires the ability to make judgments from appropriate control data regarding the validity of analytical results, and the ability to serve as a reference for less experienced staff. The Technologist II must comply with all institute policies regarding the confidentiality of patient information and lawful use of any computerized patient data.

This position is 9am to 5:30pm. You would be required to work 1 out of 7 weekends (with compensatory days off) and be on call 1 out of 7 weekends. We are closed major Holidays.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot all instrumentation.

  • Maintain all record keeping and Quality Control requirements related to all tests.

  • Ability to perform normal and abnormal differentials

  • Must have ability to train others.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • BS, MT (ASCP) or nationally recognized equivalent with a minimum of 3 years experience working in a hematology laboratory preferred or AS, MLT (ASCP) or nationally recognized equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience working in a hematology laboratory.

  • Training in OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, Advanced Fire/Safety, Infection Control, and Departmental Safety is required annually.
