What is Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)?

Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) encompasses all aspects of an M&A transaction from financial, tax and operational due diligence, to planning for and executing integrations and separations. Our M&A group within Strategy and Transactions provides a holistic business approach to due diligence covering financial, operational, tax, IT, commercial and strategy. The M&A intern is primarily responsible for working on client engagements from start to finish, specific to financial due diligence, which includes: planning, executing, directing, and completing financial due diligence projects and services. The M&A intern is also responsible for learning how to apply skills in financial due diligence for financial and strategic buyers from a variety of industries. The intern will work closely with staff, managers, and partners across service lines to provide services needed by examining and uncovering the detailed answers to complex questions about acquisitions and divestitures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting

  • Major and overall minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • The willingness and ability to work additional hours, as needed, and travel to various client sites 

Skill Requirements:

Interested candidates should display an affinity for learning and problem-solving skills as well as have the adaptability to work cross-functionally within the Strategy and Transactions practice.  Interested candidates should be self-starters and should demonstrate strength in or a desire to build skills related to Grant Thornton’s core values of: Collaboration, Leadership, Excellence, Agility, Respect and Responsibility. Candidates should display:

  • Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong technical aptitude and skillset

  • Demonstrated project management skillset including project planning and time management

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment
