HNTB Office Engineer III in Boston, Massachusetts

What We're Looking For

The time is right to join HNTB's Boston office as an Office Engineer III.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Manage contractor submittals from initial receipt to final disposition.

  • Manage all project SharePoint notifications and initiate workflow process.

  • Be able to accurately identify the contractor submittal with limited support

  • Conduct contract level QA review of submittals with project management team

  • Initiate Bluebeam review session for each submittal

  • Track specific reviewers as necessary to support project goals, conduct internal comment QC, and determine final disposition of submittals

  • Attend project review meetings and comment resolution meetings.

  • Maintain review/disposition log of all design and construction submittals.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI)

  • OSHA 30 certified preferred.

  • Agency safety training certified.

  • Trained in digital construction management software such as Constructware, Asite or similar preferred.

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists and acts as when needed, the Resident Engineer and/or Project Manager in the administration of the construction contract. Provides interpretation of contract plans and specifications and reviews contractor's shop drawings and submittals for contract compliance, as applicable.

  • Maintains as-built record drawings, project files, and records database including specifications, test results and reports.

  • Keeps inspector's daily report of assigned work activities. Performs reviews for approval of contractor's monthly schedule submittals and pay estimates.

  • Assists in project administration by monitoring internal project controls and claims documentation. Reviews schedules and facilitates resolution in problem situations.

  • Responsible for logging, tracking, and processing requests for information, submittals, change orders, and other project deliverables.

  • Reviews inspector's daily reports for conformance with the project requirements, plans, specifications, quantities, contractor's progress, and as-constructed data.

  • Reviews, assembles, and processes the monthly progress payments.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.

  • Master's degree in Engineering and 3 years relevant experience.

  • Doctorate degree in Engineering and 2 years relevant experience.

Competencies:

  • Identifies complex discrepancies or conflicts within documents and takes appropriate action to resolve issues.

  • Performs advanced calculations, develops plots and graphs using Excel, and drafts detailed reports for project progress reporting to the client.

  • Provides direction on projects to less experienced staff.

  • Performs advanced shop drawing and submittal review as well as advanced CPM schedule analysis.

  • Ensures accountability by holding oneself and others accountable to meet commitments.

  • Takes action on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm, independently.

  • Communicates effectively by developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the project needs to external partners (i.e., clients, consultants, and contractors).

  • Uses resourcefulness by securing and deploying project resources effectively and efficiently.
