Boston University OPERATIONS MANAGER, Animal Science Center, Facilities in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Animal Science Center is part of the Office of Research, a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work; from finding funding, to creating proposals, to helping inventions find their way to the public.

Summary

The Operations Manager will assist the Assistant Director of Operations in managing personnel and day to day operations of the animal facilities. The manager will provide training and guidance to animal husbandry staff, and oversee the on-the-floor implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the animal husbandry provided to the research animals meets Boston University standards of care. Operation Managers must be willing to work in flexible and changing environments, including facilities that may house multiple species.

Responsibilities include

  • En s ure proper facility operations- Oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations in the Animal Facil itie s and ensure smooth running

  • Pl interactions/customer service- Put ASC's best foot forward with excellent customer service, and aid resear ch community in their efforts

  • Staff interactions (guidance, trainings, etc.)- Manage staff effectively and foster a learning environment

  • Projects- Take the lead in all facility upkeep. Manage repairs. Initiate any projects that will add to the efficiency of the operations

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of animal husbandry requirements, methods, and techniques

  • Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures

  • Foster positive and constructive workplace relations

  • Time management and ability to work independently

  • Flexibility working in a changing environment

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to animal husbandry

  • Attention to detail

  • Communicate clearly and effectively across multiple streams; computer, tablet, smartphone, and teach others how to use these platforms.

Required Skills

  • High School diploma or GED with 7+ years of animal experience or Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of animal experience

  • 3+ years experience in leading/supervising teams in an animal research setting

  • Experience working with multiple laboratory species preferred

  • ALAT required

  • LAT preferred
