This Pathology Technologist will be responsible for:

  • Logging and accessing specimens on departmental computer system and enters orders for laboratory procedures and special stains according to established protocols. Dictating gross descriptions and submit sections for processing.

  • Retrieving and preparing frozen sections for review and diagnoses by staff Pathologists.

  • Maintaining cryostat functionality and performs maintenance and inventory of frozen section area on a daily basis.

Providing technical and administrative support for autopsies on weekends and holidays on rotation, or in emergency situations.

  • Obtaining and verifying completion of required forms and authorizations. Preparing room and cadaver and assists Pathologist during autopsy.

  • Removing, preparing, logging and delivering/shipping tissue and other specimens for analysis.

  • Preparing body for release and maintains related logs and records. Cleaning and maintains equipment in autopsy suite.

  • Maintaining Neuropathology computer databases. Establishing diagnostic categories, reviews pathology reports and selects data for computer input. Reviewing and editing data and prepares periodic reports.

  • Developing and performing image analyses studies of tissue specimens using specialized computer software. Storing data in separate computer and transfers images to video system.

  • Providing support for Neuropathology operations, including preparation of statistics for reports, organizing data for quality assurance studies, collecting materials for teaching sets, and investigating and recommending new equipment.

  • Providing backup diener coverage, as necessary, for pulling blocks, photography assistance, catalog/storing/retrieving frozen specimens, tissue shipping/requests for tissue, urgent/special request, ordering supplies for surgical cutting room and ships specimens.

  • Maintaining compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory requirements in surgical cutting room, autopsy and other areas.

  • Ensuring laboratory's compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements, and Hospital and departmental policies, including safety, chemical hygiene and infection control.

  • Developing procedures and/or follows established procedures for quality control and quality assurance, and assures continual implementation.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Pathology Lab Experience may be substituted for up to 4 years of college education.

  • Area of Study: Biological Science or closely related field preferred

  • Prior experience preferred

  • Retrieving and preparing frozen sections for review and diagnoses by staff Pathologists.

  • Maintaining cryostat functionality and performs maintenance and inventory of frozen section area on a daily basis.

    Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.
