The Department of Radiology provides a full range of imaging services (http://www.childrenshospital.org/centers-and-services/departments/radiology/programs-and-services) for newborns, infants, children, teens, young adults and pregnant women at the Longwood campus and our Lexington, Peabody, Waltham and Weymouth locations. Our team performs and interprets more than 200,000 imaging studies each year, using the latest equipment and techniques specially designed or adapted for pediatric use.
Our team includes pediatric radiologists, pediatric neuroradiologists, pediatric interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, technologists, nurses and child life specialists. We work together with families, referring physicians, and our Boston Children's colleagues to obtain the best possible and most appropriate images for an accurate diagnosis.
The Per diem Sonographer is responsible for the following:
Performs routine ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
Reviews and evaluates requisitions for ultrasound imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts and determining appropriateness of procedure prescribed given diagnosis and clinical signs for routine examinations.
Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
Assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and ability to respond to instructions and develops plan for adjusting to patients' specific needs.
Follows QC/Data Integrity Workflow process.
Practices High Reliability Communication techniques.
Responds to the uniqueness and clinical condition of the patient.
Creates a supportive environment for the patient and the family.
Promotes a positive work environment in compliance with ETU.
Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions.
Assists senior technologists in organizing and maintaining daily operations of section.
Provides instruction on pediatric ultrasound procedures and techniques to residents, fellows, and students as requested.
Participates in departmental and hospital meetings.
Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

The Per Diem Sonographer must have the following:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
Associates degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
