A Day in The Life

As a Principal Software Architect, Embedded Software, you are an expert for and will be a lead contributor to the software design for our embedded sensor, actuator, control, and peripheral hardware that build the foundation of our surgical robotic platform. You will work closely with your software, hardware, and systems architecture team and product management team, to create the right embedded software architecture. You will collaborate with our Research & Technology team to mature new technologies for our embedded platform. Your work will involve the identification of the right architecture patterns and hardware interface specifications for a product with more than 50 embedded computers and numerous sensors and actuators.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Partner with hardware and systems engineering, our Research & Technology team to maintain our embedded software platform

  • Partner with the Systems team, product owners and validation groups to define and review requirements and use cases

  • Partner with the development teams to create the Software Architecture and Design for the embedded software platform

  • Create and maintain the software architecture model and documentation with UML/SysML and Enterprise Architect

  • Support and review the design of C++ implementation of the embedded software.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 5 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Solid architecture and model-based design skills using UML (SysML a plus)

  • Experience with Enterprise Architect (Matlab/Simulink a plus)

  • Solid understanding of design patterns, data structures and architectures for embedded and real-time software

  • Experience with data processing and signal processing architectures, esp. robot control architectures

  • Medical product development process highly desired-regulator processes, safety considerations, hands-on experience with medical/surgical devices/instruments

  • Experience with a big company with matrix structures, having already worked with cross functional teams within an international environment

  • Fluency in English is required (German a plus)

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
