Humana Principal Mainframe Platform Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Mainframe Platform Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our critical mainframe systems that underpin our critical business applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the design, implementation, optimization and support of our mainframe platform which forms the backbone of our business operations.

  • Provide deep technical expertise on z/OS, JES2, JCL, DB2, CICS and major vendor mainframe products.

  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot complex system issues, implementing effective solutions to maintain optimal platform performance.

  • Stay abreast of emerging mainframe technologies and industry best practices, recommending and implementing improvements to the platform.

  • Partner with development teams to ensure seamless integration with the mainframe platform.

  • Foster a knowledge-sharing culture by mentoring engineers, documenting technical processes and evangelizing mainframe best practices.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

  • Participate in demand management/reduction and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in capacity planning and resource allocation for the mainframe environment.

  • Represent the mainframe platform to stakeholders across the organization, providing clear and concise technical explanations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • 15+ years of experience in mainframe platform engineering.

  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and supporting complex mainframe systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of z/OS, JES2, JCL, DB2, CICS and major vendor mainframe products.

  • Demonstrated ability to indirectly lead and mentor technical teams.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively build trust and rapport with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • A proactive and outcomes oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning.

Bonus points:

  • Masters degree preferred.

  • Experience with DevOps principles and automation tools.

  • Experience with cloud integration for mainframe applications.

Work-At-Home Requirements

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.

Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$139,500 - $192,000 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
