Job Summary
Starting with Linux and beyond, Red Hat works with upstream open source communities to make enterprise-ready software that’s hardened, tested, and securely distributed. We’ve spent more than two decades collaborating on community projects so we can continue to develop software that pushes the boundaries of technological ability, and security is an integral part of this work.
Red Hat’s Open Source Program Office is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed, and hands-on individual to lead community development for our involvement in AI and machine learning communities. We are looking for a person who has community-building experience, demonstrated contributions to open source projects, and the ability to align business and customer needs with open source community efforts. Experience in developing open source business strategies and using metrics to evaluate success is important.
You’ll engage with both the users of and the developers of open source projects, advocating for the needs of the community while serving as a public face for the projects. You’ll work with members of the Open Source Program Office, engineering, the legal team, and other stakeholders across Red Hat as well as in multiple open source software communities.
This position requires some international travel.
We are open to applications from anywhere in the world, with the opportunity to work either fully remote or from a Red Hat office. Regardless of where you are based, your primary stakeholders are located in Europe and the United States East Coast. Your working hours will require sufficient overlap with the Eastern Time Zone (UTC-5) and Central European Time (UTC+1).
What you’ll do
Expand the visibility of Red Hat as an industry leader in open source by demonstrating and promoting Red Hat’s contributions to AI and ML related open source projects and communities that align with our overall strategy
Support Red Hat’s contributions within communities where the company has more recently started strategic engagement (e.g. the AI Alliance, PyTorch)
Drive focus in innovation around the evolving AI market, crafting authentic and compelling messaging around how Red Hat supports our communities and customers in their evolution toward increased use of AI tools.
Rationalize Red Hat’s community commitments in key, AI-related open source projects aligned to Red Hat’s strategy; champion Red Hat’s opinionated technical choices in these communities in an audience appropriate manner to further Red Hat’s technology and business agenda.
Work with our engineering, legal, security, communications, product, and recruiting teams to turn AI related contributions into powerful stories that demonstrate the strength of open source.
Cultivate our open source presence and reputation in AI related open source organizations, standards bodies, and more.
Partner with various teams – including corporate communications, events, consulting, developer, product, and partner marketing – to ensure successful and targeted execution of various community outreach activities including events, social media, web content, and more.
What you’ll bring
Strong understanding of AI/ML and AIOps technologies, as well as curiosity and passion to track its evolution and be a part of influencing that evolution.
3+ years of working experience in the open source industry.
Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work associated with both short- and long-term goals.
Experience with software development, open source developer communities and understanding of development processes.
Ability to lead teams and participate in multiple cross-organizational teams.
Experience motivating volunteers and staff across departments and companies.
Familiarity with developer tools, continuous integration, containers, Kubernetes, security, and cloud native technologies in general.
Familiarity with social media.
Relationships in prominent open source communities are a plus.
Understanding of the public sector industry is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $144,660.00 - $238,650.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
