lGE Vernova's Consulting Services business (GEVCS), a part of GE Vernova's Commercial Strategy organization, offers our global clients, both internal to GE Vernova and external, a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization and system reliability.

GEVCS’s Power Economics practice focuses on the economics and financial impact analysis within the energy space and offers consulting services focused on the understanding and study of the financial and physical operation of electric power systems, including generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, competitive power markets and energy policy implications.

Job Description

As a Principal on the GE Vernova Consulting Services team, the successful candidate will lead confidently lead consulting engagements across the electric power industry and support other GE business initiatives related to power systems equipment and services.

As a Principal within GEVCS's Resource Adequacy & Reliability focus, your work will center on the usage of GE's MARS ("Multi-Area Reliability Simulation") software to perform probabilistic analysis related to resource adequacy and power system reliability. This analysis will further aid our customers across a variety of applications, including future system planning, reserve margin analysis and capacity market structure/development, and capacity value assessment (including effective load carrying capability) of different technology types, such as wind, solar, and storage.

Additionally, Principals are expected to provide support in business development and strategic business initiatives related to their specialty focus, and will have a hand in guiding focus/team strategy.

Roles & Responsibilities

Lead consulting engagements, business development, and project teams supporting both internal and external clients.

Lead team efforts to update and maintain global power market models (via GE MARS software).

Identify and cultivate new customers and business opportunities.

Work with senior management to develop business strategy to expand consulting in key focus areas, such as reliability, decarbonization, and/or transmission/distribution spaces.

Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing written detailed and summary reports and presentations.

Proactively seek out new opportunities and study work by responding to Requests for Proposals from grid operators, utilities, developers, and other industry participants.

Support GE businesses and customers in the areas of contractual service agreement, transactional services, new unit sales, new product initiatives, and challenges to the utility business model, and decarbonization.

Actively participate in Industry forums to promote GE Vernova and our Consulting Services business.

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or Business Administration from an accredited university or college.

Minimum of 7 years of total experience in one or more of the following areas: electric power systems engineering, energy market design and operations, generation / transmission planning or operations, wholesale power trading, and energy market consulting.

Demonstrated understanding of and history using power system reliability modeling software (GE MARS, SERVM, other).

Demonstrated familiarity in resource adequacy and reliability concepts and relevant news/policy changes, e.g. "ability to connect the dots" between theory and "real world" topics.

Desired Characteristics

Master’s Degree / PhD in engineering, business administration, mathematics, economics, or computer science from an accredited university or college.

Minimum of 3 years of experience with power system simulation tools (PSLF, PSS/E) and/or production cost models (i.e., MAPS, PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD) or other relevant.

Industry reputation, published articles and presentations in industry forums (IEEE, CIGRE, etc.)

Participation in industry standards working groups.

Programming experience (i.e., Python, MATLAB, etc.)

Proficient with Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills to present findings of analytical studies to a wide range of industry stakeholders.

Strong technical writing skills for proposals and study reports.
