Boston Public Schools Problem Resolution System Response Director [Anticipated Vacancy] (SY24-25) in Boston, Massachusetts

This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant by 09/27/2024. However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated. REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff POSITION OVERVIEW: The Problem Resolution System Response Director will direct and coordinate the district’s responses to complaints coming from the Problem Resolution System. This person will work strategically to improve both our responses to complaints as well as addressing internal underlying system issues that may be leading to complaints. The Problem Resolution Response Director will report to the Chief of Staff, and will work closely with both BPS and DESE staff to ensure that we develop a system to respond to parent complaints in a timely and effective manner that builds our system’s capacity and understanding of regulations. The overall goal of this position is to ensure our students and families receive the service and communication they deserve. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a system-wide understanding of the PRS system and its importance to improving our overall practice and responsiveness to the community. Develop and implement the district strategy for responding to the PRS system, with a particular focus on timely, courteous and complete responses to families, as well as corrective action steps. Interface with other BPS departments and develop a system to ensure that they have the knowledge and ability to respond to the PRS department in a timely, effective manner. Work with DESE to determine patterns of complaints within individual schools and across the district to determine professional development needs. Coordinate and support the implementation of this professional development in collaboration with the Division of Schools Improve the data systems for tracking PRS complaints and make sure the needed stakeholders know their responsibilities and timelines. Serve as the point person with personnel from DESE to ensure timely and accurate communication about the resolution of each case. Support and approve the writing of the PRS complaint responses Supervise and lead the PRS team, including the PRS Coordinator and Paralegal, to ensure coordination of response Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Hold a Master’s Degree in the field of Education, policy or a Related Field; Possess a minimum of five years of experience as an education or non-profit professional in a large urban district; Demonstrate experience in culturally and linguistically responsive practices; Problem solving skills Ability to identify and resolve complex systems issues; Demonstrate experience with and a strong understanding of the laws and regulations relative to public education; Demonstrate capability to work collaboratively with central office and school administrators, direct service providers, families, students, and outside partners; Ability to effectively design systems within a bureaucracy that meets the diverse needs of BPS students and families; Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED: Experience working with the DESE PRS System BPS has a strong preference for linguistic diversity, and we believe that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali. Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools TERMS: Managerial, C53.
