VMware Program Manager - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

The Program Manager will manage a portfolio of engagements and/or multi-phased projects, often for a single enterprise/customer, achieving higher satisfaction and account retention. The person in this role can take a highly complex enterprise level program with multiple phases, interrelated work stream, and different stakeholders and manage it holistically. The Program Manager is the single point of contact for the entire program of work and may have other project manager(s) reporting to him/her.

  • Plan, coordinate, track and manage program portfolio to successful completion

  • Determine project classification and governance structure

  • Aggregate program level project plans including charter, scope, workbreakdown structures, estimates, resource plans, budget, schedule, openissues, and risk assessment, management and mitigation plans

  • Orchestrate program delivery to ensure projects/work streams are delivered and executed in alignment with the overall program plan, customer outcomes, and customer satisfaction

  • Direct and monitor work efforts on a daily basis, identify resource needs, perform quality review; and escalate functional, quality, timeline issues appropriately

  • Follow VMware’s project management methodology and ensure that projectsadhere to the defined methodology and stage gate process

  • Coordinate, track and manage projects using waterfall and agile methodologies

  • Manage program risks and take corrective action

  • Communicate program status –schedule, budget, progress to date, risks etc. -torelevant sponsors and stakeholders

  • Manage day to day interactions with executive clients

  • Monitor and manage operational and customer satisfaction metrics / surveys(with Account / CS team)

  • Handle project escalations and decisions per governance structure

  • Manage project portfolio using tailored governance dashboard

  • Engage with Sales and Account teams to identify/drive account growth opportunities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with top decision makers at key clients

  • Participate and lead aspects of the proposal development process

  • Highlight areas of improvement and recommend changes in methods, processes and tools

  • Follow up on customer satisfaction surveys (with Account / CS team)

  • Coach team members as needed to optimize efficiency of the project team

  • Maintain inclusive team-oriented work environment and play an active role in counseling and mentoring junior practitioners


  • Minimum 10 years of project and program management experience in a Professional services organization preferably with a Technology or “Big 5” consulting organization

  • Proven experience taking proactive lead, ownership, and accountability of desired program outcome success, risks, dependencies, and issues

  • Strong command of cloud infrastructure, technical & business mobility and virtualization software knowledge

  • Executive-level communication & relationship management

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Travel – 50% or more may be required

Certification and Education:

  • B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent technical training

  • PMI or PRINCE2 certification
