The Program Manager for Tutoring and Peer-to-Peer Success Services (TAPPSS) collaborates with the TAPPSS team in the Center for Learning & Academic Success (CLAS) to oversee the day-to-day management of CLAS tutoring programs. The Program Manager coordinates Supplemental Instruction (SI) for specific courses with international pathway students enrolled and will pilot on a limited basis SI for targeted courses that historically have high DFW rates. The Program Manager also recruits and oversees TAs for first-year experience courses in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Sawyer Business School (CAS-101 & SBS-100). Additionally, the Program Manager manages and oversees the CLAS Marketing Art & Design Scholars to market CLAS services to the Suffolk Community, the English Language Learner (ELL) Support Scholars to market CLAS services to emerging multilingual students both international and domestic, and the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Scholars to support JEDI best practices in the learning center.

Program Oversight:

  • Coordinates the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program:

  • Staffs, schedules, and trains SI leaders for specified courses in which significant numbers of INTO-Suffolk students are enrolled.

  • Liaises with the INTO Suffolk staff to select courses in need of SI leaders.

  • Communicates with faculty teaching courses with SI leaders regarding the SI leader’s role inside and outside of the classroom.

  • Oversees a pilot program implementing SI in a limited number of targeted classes with historically high DFW rates.

  • Oversees CLAS Marketing, Art & Design team to market CLAS services:

  • Oversees marketing and promotion for the CLAS across print, web, and social media platforms.

  • Works with the CLAS marketing team to create schedules for all tutoring and group support programs.

  • Communicates to faculty and students the tutoring and group support services offered each semester.

  • Manages the first-year experience TA program:

  • Recruits and oversees TAs for first-year experience courses (CAS-101 & SBS-100).

  • Communicates with the CAS & SBS dean’s offices and faculty to coordinate the TA role inside and outside the classroom. Assigns TAs to faculty/class sections.

  • Coordinates TA trainings, debriefs, and community-building events.

  • Oversees the CAS TA Coordinator and the SBS TA Coordinator.

  • Monitors the expenditure of first-year experience TA funds.

  • Conducts Assessment on the TA Program to implement improvements year to year.

  • Day-to-day co-managing of tutoring program:

  • Manages appointment changes including canceling, rescheduling, and blocking time with an intimate knowledge of tutor expertise and disposition.

  • In conjunction other CLAS staff, supports and mentors CLAS peer and professional tutors.

  • Co-facilitates weekly tutor trainings and monthly all-employee meetings.

    Management:

  • Directly oversees Art & Design Grad Fellow.

  • Oversees SI leaders.

  • Supervises a team of Marketing Art & Design scholars, ELL support scholars, and JEDI Scholars (sub-groups of the Geno A. Ballotti Scholars).

  • Oversees first-year experience TAs and TA coordinators.

  • Creates and distributes Qualtrics surveys to track employee graduations, future semester plans, employee contact information, etc. and maintains the CLAS employee database with the assistance of the CLAS administrative grad fellows.

    Operations Management:

  • Assists in creating tutor schedules for 1-on-1 tutoring as well as drop-in services. In coordination with the INTO-Suffolk program, schedules English language workshops, English language tutoring, and English language drop-in services.

  • Inputs schedules and expertise into appointment management system (Navigate) each semester.

  • Assists in day-to-day scheduling adjustments in our systems.

  • Assists with the recruitment and oversight of the Geno A. Ballotti Scholar Program.

  • Tracks hours of Ballotti Scholars and grad fellows to ensure that each employee meets the hourly requirements of their award without running out of funding.

  • Works in collaboration with incoming CLAS writing tutors and the Registrar to coordinate scheduling and creation of sections of ENG-320 and ENG-321.

    Events Management:

  • Co-organizes with the McNair Scholar’s administrative team and the TAPPSS team the Annual McNair- Ballotti Symposium offered each April.

  • Co-organizes tutor participation in the New England Peer Tutoring Association (NEPTA) conference each spring.

  • Assists the Assistant Director of TAPPSS in event logistics for pre-service trainings and all-employee meetings

    CLAS/DSS Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the accuracy and timely updating of the CLAS content on the Suffolk University website.

  • Oversees the social media accounts for the CLAS and uses these platforms to promote CLAS services.

  • Performs Early Alert outreach.

  • Co-chairs the DSS Communications Committee.

  • Represents Tutoring & Peer-to-Peer Success Services team on other DSS committees as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements/ Qualifications:

    Master’s degree preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Must be detail-oriented. Ability to work well as part of a team and individually. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, social media platforms, and willingness to learn new software as needed. STEM background a plus. Previous tutoring center or writing center experience (especially as a tutor) and experience working with college level students a plus. CRLA certification, a plus. Experience with EAB Navigate, TutorTrac , or another tutor management system, a plus. Experience with Constant Contact and Qualtrics, a plus. Evening and weekend work may be occasionally required.
