Jacobs Rail Vehicle Engineer/Deputy Project Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

The Rail and Transit Team in Boston, MA is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, detail-oriented Rail Vehicle Engineer to join our cohesive and supportive team. In this role, you will have the opportunity expand your knowledge and understanding of all that goes into a transit system, while demonstrating your expertise on a myriad of interdisciplinary projects, such as new vehicle procurements, vehicle overhauls, transit strategy and planning, condition assessments, technical/mechanical issue resolution, component/system integration, and design review.

You will work on projects that will include the procurement of new or overhauled transit vehicles and related projects involving Light Rail, Heavy Rail/subway, and Commuter Rail Vehicles. In this position you will be working both independently and collaboratively with our team of established experts in both our Boston office and field locations. Some travel is anticipated as part of this role.

Job Duties Include: • Provide project management and technical support to a variety of rail vehicle assignments. • Provide Engineering and project management support in preparation of technical specifications for functional/ sub system/ testing/ maintenance & training requirements for rail vehicle or subsystem procurements or overhauls. • Perform technical reviews of vehicle and subsystem design for transit and railroad fleets, analyze requirements, and prepare review comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables. • Perform oversight and witnessing of factory testing of vehicles and subsystems prior to approval for shipment; log discrepancies and prepare reports for status of system testing. • Monitor field implementation and testing activities for a range of rail vehicles. • Support System integration of vehicle subsystems and complete vehicles from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance. • Assess performance and specification compliance for vehicles and subsystems. • Administrative matters, as work needs are identified, and responsibilities are delegated.

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline

• Professional experience in a rail vehicle engineering, fleet operations and maintenance, or manufacturing role with an operator, carbuilder, supplier, contractor or consultant.

• Demonstrated knowledge and application of rail vehicle industry standards, systems, and practices.

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences are critical.

• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

• Experience with rail vehicle fleet procurement and/or overhaul programs is desirable.

• EIT/PE or a demonstrated desire to pursue is a strong plus.
