The Umemori Lab is therefore interested in the mechanisms that regulate the development and function of synaptic circuits. Using in vitro and in vivo systems, we identify the manner and molecular logic by which specific and functional synaptic circuits are established in the mammalian brain and provide clues for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders associated with abnormal synapse development. We use molecular and cellular, mouse genetic, imaging, physiological, behavioral, and optogenetic techniques.
