This Research Assistant II will be responsible for:

  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.

  • Troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.

  • Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab.

  • Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.

  • Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students.

  • Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

  • Individual will be working on project: Discovery and modeling of genetic forms of childhood kidney disease

To qualify, you must have:

  • The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree, AND a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.

  • The analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.

  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Mouse modeling experience (mouse dissections, mouse genotyping PCR, mouse breeding, mouse colony management).

  • Cell culture including viral transduction, transient transfections.

  • Basic molecular biology skills including PCR, western blotting, molecular cloning.

Please note: During a public health emergency, individuals in this role may be expected to take on additional duties to respond to organizational needs.
