Boston University Research Fellow, Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management, School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts
The Department of Health Law, Policy, and Management at Boston University School of Public Health is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) Research Fellow to support multifaceted analytic research activities focused on Medicaid policy, care delivery models, and equity of care. The position will be supervised by Dr. Megan Cole.
Time will be divided primarily between three research directions. The first will use All Payer Claims Data (APCD) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) data to study how the statewide Massachusetts Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model affects quality of care and addresses unmet social needs of patients (e.g., food insecurity, housing insecurity); this focuses on maternal health, mental health, and chronic disease populations. The second uses national data on Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to understand policy-level and organizational drivers of quality of care, access to care, and racial equity of care. The third will use Medicaid claims data, EHR data, and patient survey data to evaluate how an equity-focused telehealth delivery model affects quality of care, utilization of services, patient experience, and equity of care for Medicaid patients served by FQHCs during COVID-19. There will also be opportunity to become a member of the BU Medicaid Policy Lab (MPL), including collaboration on research activities and participation MPL meetings. Finally, there will be dedicated time for the candidate to participate in professional development and mentoring activities that best support the career goals of the candidate.
The primary responsibilities will include statistical programming and analytic data set creation (50%), implementing statistical analyses (15%), supporting manuscript writing and preparation of presentations (20%), supporting project coordination activities (10%), and participating in other research and professional development activities that otherwise advances the candidate’s career (5%).

Experience working with large health care data sets, including claims data
Advanced statistical software and programming skills (Stata or SAS)
Experience with regression modeling
Strong writing skills
Highly organized and detail oriented
Self-motivated and able to work well independently, while also working well with teams
Ability to balance multiple tasks and efficiently manage time
Masters degree (MPH, MS, or equivalent) in health policy, health services research, health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, or a related field
2-5 years of professional experience in data analysis, data management, statistical programming, or evaluation
Interest in Medicaid policy, quality of care, equity of care, and/or safety-net providers
Familiarity with diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and/or HEDIS measures
Experience with causal inference and/or econometric methods
There is currently a minimum of 12 months of grant funding for this position.
