A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Mike Makrigiorgos at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, Boston. Our laboratory is investigating tumor-derived DNA biomarkers that are found in the blood of patients with various types of cancer. We are developing and validating new technologies to enable ultra-sensitive, maximum efficiency sequencing of tumor-derived nucleic acids in the circulation (refs: Nature Medicine 2008, doi: 10.1038/nm1708; Nucleic Acids Res. 2016 Nov 2;44(19): e146; Nucleic Acids Res. 2018 Apr 4. doi: 10.1093/nar/gky251). This field has seen a recent explosion of interest as clinical applications for these new biomarkers are becoming apparent. We are creating tools to investigate whether circulating tumor DNA can be used for monitoring treatment response, for tracking disease recurrence, and ultimately for detecting cancer at an earlier, more curable stage.
We seek a highly motivated individual with an inclination for technology development and an interest in translational cancer research. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, and have a strong background in nucleic acid biochemistry. Resourcefulness, creative thinking, and excellent written and oral communication skills are important. If you would like to join our efforts to create new diagnostic tools with the goal of improving cancer outcomes, please send your CV and a brief cover letter to Dr. Makrigiorgos via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
