Amazon Senior Applied Scientist, Automated Reasoning Group in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

The Automated Reasoning Group is looking for a Senior Applied Scientist with expertise in automated test generation (e.g., property-based testing, fuzzing, symbolic execution) and deductive verification (e.g., Lean, Dafny) to deliver novel code reasoning capabilities at scale. You will be part of a larger organization that develops a spectrum of formal software analysis tools that target software at levels of abstraction from assembler to high-level programming languages. You will work in a team of world class automated reasoning experts who, in collaboration with experts in GenAI, aim to deliver code reasoning technology that is powerful yet accessible to all developers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Designing and building general-purpose, automated test generation tools, drawing on techniques from areas including automated reasoning, fuzzing, and GenAI

  • Developing hybrid workflows for code reasoning that combine static and runtime verification, and leverage GenAI

  • Working with product designers and software engineers to integrate these tools into compelling customer experiences

About the team

You will be working within the Automated Reasoning Group, a team spanning recently hired PhDs to industry veterans with expertise in formal verification, theorem proving, model checking, static and dynamic analysis, programming languages, and automated test generation. This expertise is being leveraged to enhance, and be enhanced by, exciting new AI technologies. Basic Qualifications

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience with programming in languages such as Rust, Java, OCaml, Haskell, C++, Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automated test generation, such as property-based testing, symbolic execution, and fuzzing

  • Experience in formal verification, program analysis, constraint-solving, symbolic execution, model checking, and/or theorem proving with SAT/SMT solvers or languages such as Lean or Dafny

  • Experience working with GenAI models, including prompt engineering and fine-tuning

  • Knowledge of the workings of compilers and/or code instrumentation tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
