About the Role

Boston University Office of Financial Assistance seeks a Senior Assistant Director for Systems. The Senior Assistant Director oversees the timely and accurate review of financial aid applications and the awarding of financial aid funds to support the university’s recruitment and retention efforts. This position counsels prospective applicants, current students, and their families about the application process and financing options throughout the year. The Senior Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of Systems and Compliance

This Senior Assistant Director hires, trains, and supervises two professional staff. This role works closely with colleagues within the central financial aid office.

The Senior Assistant Director’s primary duties include:

  • Develops and conducts new training initiatives for new and current staff;

  • Oversees restricted scholarship awarding and outside scholarships;

  • Coordinates and monitors timely processing of over 15,000 financial aid applications and more than 3,000 student financial and satisfactory academic progress appeals annually and;

  • Conducts and responds to inquiries and appeals from constituents, offering guidance on financial management and alternative funding sources.

    Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

About the Candidate

A bachelor’s degree is required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Has at least three to five years of previous experience in a similar role;

  • Has 2 years of supervisory experience;

  • Possesses strong analytical and organizational skills;

  • Is detail-oriented;

  • Is an effective problem solver and communicator;

  • Is able to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and;

  • Has prior knowledge of federal and state financial aid policies and procedures, including familiarity with federal verification requirements

    Experience using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is a plus.
