Responsibilities:

  • Perform research and analysis using loss, expense, and/or premium data to quantify the performance of business segments and recommend and design new approaches and methodologies, including for the calculation and allocation of incurred but not reported (IBNR) loss and loss adjustment expense reserves.

  • Develop recommendations to address business process inefficiencies or potential improvements, including those related to the efficiency of IBNR reserve calculations and allocations to state and reporting entities.

  • Present recommendations to business stakeholders.

  • Compile loss, expense, and premium data for loss, expense, and premium analysis using tools and software including Excel, SAS, SmartView, and Access.

  • Create reports and financial analyses qualitatively and quantitatively to support internal and external financial reporting and fulfill various statutory requirements.

  • Build the business case for making a change to current business practices, programs or procedures by conducting current state assessment, opportunity assessment, cost/benefit analysis, and feasibility assessments and provide recommendations based on these assessments and analyses.

  • Perform quality assurance checks and technical peer reviews on analyses performed by other members of the team.

  • Partner with stakeholders on the design, testing, implementation, and evaluation of business process changes to improve business outcomes.

  • Lead implementation and evaluation of business process changes or a portion of a larger initiative.

  • Telecommuting permitted up to 40%.


Qualifications:


The position requires a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field PLUS two (2) years of experience in the job offered, financial analysis, or a related field or role. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field PLUS five (5) years of experience in the job offered, accounting, or a related field or role. The position requires one (1) year of experience with each of the following: using Excel to compile financial data for a segment or segments of insurance business; performing analysis using Excel or SAS to quantify profitability or other key performance metrics of a segment or segments of insurance business; evaluating existing and designing new analytical or querying approaches and methodologies related to the insurance industry; analyzing data to provide financial reporting in an accurate and efficient fashion to solve business problems, improve business outcomes, and support various reporting requirements; and utilizing multidimensional database management systems to retrieve critical financial data for purposes of analysis or reporting related to recurring profitability reports (or other key performance metrics), filings, or ad-hoc requests for such information from stakeholders.
