VMware Senior Cloud Services Infrastructure Engineer - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

VMware is looking for a talented candidate to fill a Senior Cloud Services Infrastructure Engineer position in the WorkspaceONE End-User Computing (EUC) R&D Organization.

Team Responsibility

The Infrastructure Services team drives the delivery of services and infrastructure to facilitate the running of core applications that make up our global SaaS offering. The team is actively involved in improving efficiencies in service reliability with automation and software solutions through collaborative efforts with other R&D groups within VMware. We are often involved in leading-edge use cases of the SaaS transformation of the product and work towards automated solutions for both infrastructure and the application.

Role Responsibilities:

The Infrastructure Engineer will work closely with leadership, Infrastructure and R&D teams to maintain/support all infrastructure from compute to network. You should have a DevOps mindset to solving problems and maintains a high degree of ownership as we continue our automation journey into Software Defined datacenters. You will be expected to design and drive technical decisions. You will also be expected to learn and own engineering initiatives and champion a culture of continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. The responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Coordinate efforts between teams to drive infrastructure as code

  • Work closely with teams to automate daily tasks

  • Taking the lead on new projects and initiatives, driving them to completion within required deadlines

  • Plan, maintain and support compute infrastructure to ensure overall availability and reliability of network and compute resources

  • Coordinate and facilitate the day-to-day tasks

  • Monitor usage, capacity, and performance of networks and compute infrastructure; liaise with users and/or vendors to address problems and changes in requirements

  • Perform back-ups, implement procedures for disaster recovery where required

  • Maintain system documentation, including licenses, user manuals, hardware and software inventory, security listings, and diagrams

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching.

  • Work with other departments to provide an overall 99.99% availability of enterprise and production services

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Production Operations, DevOps role with a preference towards SaaS application delivery or Site Reliability

  • Advanced experience with VMware vSphere ESXi, vCenter, Active Directory and Windows Server Failover Cluster

  • Knowledge and experience of cloud computing (AWS, VMC etc.)

  • Scripting experience with PowerShell/PowerCLI, bash, perl, python or other languages with an understanding of programming logic

  • Experience in monitoring systems such as Solarwinds, Wavefront and Stackstorm

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and other LAN/WAN networking protocols such as DHCP, VPN, NAT

  • Must be able to work on multiple projects and prioritize accordingly

  • Occasional evening and weekend work to lead/assist with out of hours maintenance activities

  • Be available for on-call support on a rotating schedule for incident escalations (24x7)

  • Possess excellent troubleshooting and resolution skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in the following areas - Load Balancers (F5 Big IP LTM/GTM, AVI Networks) and Cisco routers (ASR, ISR, CSR), Cisco ASA firewalls

  • Knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform

  • Knowledge of Linux OS including package management and system administration

  • Knowledge of EMC & AWS storage

  • Experience in vulnerability management systems such as Nessus/Tenable, InsightVM
