Liberty Mutual Senior Director I, Product Management - Industry Practices in Boston, Massachusetts

As the Senior Director I, Product Management, you will be responsible for managing complex, large-scale, and highly specialized projects that impact product development, pricing strategy, and underwriting within the Product Management or Product Research departments and across the SBU. Determines tactical underwriting and pricing strategies, sets plans and benchmarks for the organization and evaluates product performance to drive state and/or countrywide profitable growth. Sponsors projects aimed at driving change across departments within Product Management. Manages projects with impact throughout the SBU, including those with cross-functional reach and requiring executive buy-in. Evaluates business processes, recommends efficiencies and improvements and implements changes. Manages complex data gathering, reporting and analysis. Works with Senior Management to set benchmarks and evaluate performance of new products, programs and tools. Presents work to Product SVPs, Chief Product Officer, and SBU President.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team of Product Analysis or Product Research Managers/Directors and highly analytic, senior individual contributors.

  • Provides strategic and tactical direction on initiatives for product segments countrywide.

  • Recommends projects to SVP/ PLVP and Chief Product Officer that will significantly impact SBU results.

  • Occasionally sponsors and more frequently manages complex projects aimed at driving change across departments within Product Mgmt.

  • Directs analysts and influences department priorities on competitor intelligence and drives SBU strategic initiatives (cross-functional).

  • Utilizes research to determine tactical direction for operation, assigned line of business or distribution channel.

  • May manage vendor relationships and negotiate vendor contracts for service.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field.

  • Advanced degree and/or ACAS/FCAS designation preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years, typically 9 years or more of experience in jobs with progressive responsibility, preferably in insurance.

  • Must have exceptional planning, organizational, analytical, decision-making and communication skills.

  • Experience managing individuals or operations required.

  • Excellent analytic, quantitative and problem solving skills with proven ability to influence other leaders across the Product organization.

  • Expert knowledge of product offerings, business processes, product line systems, underwriting rules, pricing plans and databases.

  • Expert understanding of insurance concepts and financial metrics.
