This Opportunity
WSP has a new opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Engineering Geologist or Geological Engineer to join the Geotechnical Engineering Team in our Merrimack, NH office. Alternative office locations including Eliot, ME, Portland, ME, Boston, MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Worcester, MA will also be considered, as would a predominantly remote location elsewhere in New England. The qualified candidate shall have broad skills in the field of applied geology and engineering geology, be registered as a Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer, or be capable of obtaining their license in a New England state. The candidate will have a minimum of 7 or more years of professional experience in geology or engineering and 3 or more years of client development. The ideal candidate will have strong background in engineering geology or geological engineering. Experience in planning and executing field exploration programs, rock slope mitigation construction support, writing proposals and reports, and managing client and project deliverables is highly desirable. The position requires effective technical skills, verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated team leadership skills, a positive attitude, good business acumen and strong task management skills.

Your Impact
Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, scientific professionals, and planners to execute project work on multiple concurrent geologic and geotechnical engineering projects.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients by providing technical expertise, being responsive and providing quality and cost targeted consulting services
Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input for project development, design, and construction.
Proficiency with rock and soil logging processes and familiarity with rock mass characterization
Plan and manage simple and complex subsurface field geologic exploration programs including drilling and test pit explorations
Provide final interpretation of soil, rock core, televiewer, and hole alignment data
Provide interpretation of subsurface conditions and develop conceptual geologic models
Review geologic samples and assign geologic unit identification, assign laboratory testing, and supervise the preparation of exploration records
Supervise and manage geologists to perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards
Analyze for and work on rock fall mitigation designs
Provide construction support during implementation of rock slope mitigation designs
Act as liaison between geologists and other experts
Provide direction on the installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP’s, inclinometers, transducers etc.)
Conduct geologic research and write and review project proposals
Interpret geologic data and write and review geotechnical and geologic reports
Provide technical direction and oversight as well as mentoring and training to junior-level staff.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Must have valid PG or PE in a New England state or ability to obtain it
Bachelor’s (B.S.) in Geology, Earth Sciences or Geological Engineering required, Master’s or PhD degree is strongly preferred
5 to 7 years of post- education related experience
Experience managing simple to complex subsurface investigations including drilling, soil/rock classification, monitoring well installation and instrumentation
Project experience with development and/or associated geohazard projects
Candidates must be willing to work in the field conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection and inspection of design implementation in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Must have excellent communication and writing skills, with demonstrated report writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
3 years of demonstrated client development/management
Broad experience in transportation, energy, mining, and land development projects with both private and public entities
Existing strong client relationships in the above sectors
Track record of successful and strong business development activities
Experience with management of mid to large-size, multi-disciplinary projects
Specialized computer skills including AutoCAD or Microstation; modeling software from Rocscience or Geostudio, GIS, Openground and/or gINT.
Proficient in industrial rope access techniques (e.g.: IRATA, SPRAT) for working on rope slopes
