Manulife Expense Supervisor in Boston, Massachusetts

The opportunity

As a Senior Expense Analyst you will work independently as well as a part of a team to ensure fund operating expenses are accurately accounted for and reported on a large array of mutual funds and other investment products. You will have exceptional attention to detail, as you will be responsible reviewing invoice allocations, expense budgets, as well as prospectuses and financial statements. Time-management skills are imperative as a result of participation in a variety of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables, many of which have strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expense oversight of the Funds' service providers and address and understand complex expense related issues as they relate to our funds and expense processing.

  • Ensure timely completeness of own deliverables as well as the deliverables of analysts and senior analysts.

  • Develop and provide training as necessary to analysts.

  • Possess a strong understanding of Mutual Funds N-1A(Prospectus) processes for a variety of complex fund types.

  • Review and comment on periodic shareholder reports for appropriateness of disclosures and reasonability of financial information according to GAAP and SEC guidance with fund reporting team.

  • Complete quarterly Board of Trustees materials

  • Review invoices in accounts payable systems associated with services performed on mutual funds. Assist analysts with allocation and processing questions as necessary.

  • Support management by editing departmental procedures based on operational improvement changes adopted by the group.

  • Participate in risk assessments, operational reviews and due diligence visits

  • Review and complete mutual fund budgets and drive audit with external auditors.

  • Provide assistance to Expense Manager related to staff training and development needs.

  • Manage/handle special projects as assigned.

  • Work with mutual fund product group and complete expense proformas and fund profitability analysis

  • Exposure and understanding of blue sky laws.

  • Strong vendor oversight for multiple service providers for funds.

Reporting to one of the team’s directors you will assist in both preparing and reviewing certain deliverables to ensure our shareholders are receiving outstanding quality when it comes to fund expense accounting, reporting, and invoice payment on their products. A major portion of the role relates to quality control on invoice allocations and review of the daily affiliated fund fees (management fees, 12b-1, and waivers/reimbursements. You could also be involved in ah-hoc work such as project initiatives and the preparation of expense ratio proformas on upcoming products.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum five years of experience in fund accounting and/or fund administration environment with progressive increase in responsibilities

  • Proven ability to work in an environment where procedures and controls are required

  • Developing Microsoft Software knowledge with an emphasis on Excel

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Familiarity with GAAP regulations pertaining to mutual funds and a strong desire to acquire additional industry knowledge

  • Ability to share knowledge and apply it to make improvements in the efficiency of the department

  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills

  • Proven ability to function in a team oriented environment

  • Some project management skills and ability to actively contribute to projects

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience

Salary range is expected to be between

$68,475.00 USD - $114,125.00 USD
