Thermo Fisher Scientific Senior Financial Analyst (Commercial) in Boston, Massachusetts

This role is part of the Chromatography & Spectrometry Division (CMD) and will be reporting to the Americas Commercial Finance Director.

The Senior Financial Analyst will support a $500M+ Commercial Region and will have responsibility for financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and reporting. This individual will be responsible for partnering with the commercial and business unit leaders to ensure forecasts accurately represent business conditions, and report financial performance and analytics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and technical abilities, demonstrated ability to proactively identify and execute on process improvement and finance automation ideas, and an excellent ability to communicate complex topics in a simple way to drive actionable solutions.

Location: 100% remote

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the regional Commercial leadership team to drive achievement of regional targets including bookings, revenues, operating expenses, headcount, working capital, and organic growth targets

  • Collaborate and partner with Commercial Leaders to manage their operating expense and headcount on a monthly and quarterly basis, including guiding them through the annual planning process

  • Analyze and interpret financial results and forecasts, providing key business and financial guidance to the organization via an executive summary

  • Ad-hoc financial analysis, analytical modeling, and consolidation reporting via the use of multiple financial systems

  • Generate and standardize detailed financial reporting of direct material, warranty, installation, and overhead

  • Support monthly and quarterly business review presentations; provide insight and support to the business units

  • Support monthly, quarterly and annual close activities

  • Collaborate with the finance team to identify issues, resolve problems and speed up processes

  • Participation in the five-year planning process and strategic initiatives

  • Establish metrics; highlights trends / gaps and facilitate actions to address

  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and internal/external audits

How will you get here?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Highly motivated with strong focus on results-based actions

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate collaboratively across a matrix organization

  • Proven record of successful individual and team process improvement actions

  • Significant financial analysis, data management, or equivalent experience in similar function in industry

  • Excellent Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, Hyperion Planning, Cognos)

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines while delivering consistent, accurate and reliable work

  • Enthusiasm to work as a team player

  • Applies strong technical and analytical skills to influence strategic business decisions

  • Demonstrates strong business acumen

  • Confidence to interact with all levels of the organization

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and accounting skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-15%
