We are one of Boston's oldest and most respected philanthropic organizations and we are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior HR Generalist to join our team. In this role, you will lead key projects, support daily operations and drive strategic HR initiatives.
The responsibilities of the Senior Human Resources (HR) Generalist include a wide spectrum of HR functions. The Senior HR Generalist will focus primarily on full cycle recruiting, HRIS management, benefits and employee relations. The work involves the application of professional knowledge and personal judgment on a variety of personnel and compliance issues.
Essential Functions:
Oversee recruitment processes and act as the lead recruiter in the filling of open positions. Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions and internships; collaborate with managers to understand skills and competencies required for positions.
Serve as subject matter expert in our system of record, UKG, used for payroll, benefits, policy management and recruiting.
Manage employee leaves of absence (e.g. PFML,FMLA), which include: meeting with employee to review rights and responsibilities, completing leave spreadsheet (in consultation with employee), completing all necessary paperwork and communicating time allocation to Payroll.
Serve as a resource for staff for questions on policies and benefits.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Foster a positive work environment by addressing employee concerns, promoting open communication, and managing conflict resolution. Serve as a trusted advisor to both employees and leadership on HR-related matters. Consult with managers and staff, providing guidance as appropriate on various HR matters; includes employee relations, elevating more sensitive issues to HR Director as needed.
Foster positive employer-employee relationships and promotes a high level of employee morale including participation and support of staff events.
Perform routine tasks as needed to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to recruitment; compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
Requirements
Experience : 5+ years of HR generalist experience, preferably in a non-profit and ideally in a fast-paced or high-growth environment. Expertise in recruiting, project management and strong interest in HRIS systems and benefits administration.
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is a plus.
Leadership Skills : Proven ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of an organization.
Strategic & Hands-On : Ability to balance strategic HR planning with hands-on execution, working effectively as a leader and team player.
Exceptional Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to employees and executives.
Problem-Solving : Demonstrated strength in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and adapting HR strategies to meet business needs.
Tech-Savvy : Proficiency in HRIS systems and familiarity with data analysis tools for tracking and reporting HR metrics.
