The goal is to enable the rapid adoption of Software Engineering best practices across the enterprise and to provide visibility into the DevOps maturity of all teams across the enterprise. This goal supports application teams to be able to improve velocity, increase quality and eliminate waste in applications delivered to our customers.

This is a unique role where you will be working with other engineers on your team, engineers on other application teams as well as engineering leaders across Optum to help achieve these goals. This role requires technical innovation, passion, enthusiasm, collaboration and an expectation of high quality for yourself and others.

As the ideal candidate you are not only experienced in DevOps tools and practices, but also have an extensive track record of delivering innovative software solutions and extensive leadership and management experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Extensive management abilities in building and leading “tiger teams” that will work side-by-side with development teams to help them with their move to a software engineering culture and practices

  • Systems and architectural thinking: The ability to technically evaluate and assess medium to large environments. Assist in defining strategic technical plans for transformation to a software engineering and continuous delivery environment

  • Implementation: Architect and develop innovative software solutions related to the DevOps and Agile transformation of the enterprise. The related technologies will include Jenkins, Jenkins Pipeline as Code, Docker, Openshift, Kafka, ELK Stack and many other DevOps related technologies. Implementation languages could vary but will include Java and Groovy

  • Expose strengths and weaknesses in the CI/CD Processes and suggest or automate paths forward to mitigate those weaknesses

  • Collaboration: Work with your peers within your team and outside your team to help develop these solutions. Work with leaders across Optum to help advise them on how best to achieve their DevOps goals

  • Learning and Teaching: To be a continuous Learner and to generously teach others what you learn

  • Feedback: To provide respectful yet honest feedback to leadership about how to better achieve the DevOps goals

  • Knowledgeable: To be knowledgeable about DevOps best practices and the requirement that all teams strive toward excellence in their execution of these Best Practices

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software development

  • 5+ years of providing technical guidance to other engineers

  • 5+ years of experience developing with Java and/or Groovy

  • 4+ years of experience DevOps technologies

  • 1+ years of experience with CI servers

  • Demonstrate an expert level of understanding and experience with at least 1 CI/CD technology (Jenkins, Docker, OpenShift, Azure, Monitoring, Logging, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher

  • Kafka experience

  • GitHub experience

  • ELK Stack Setup and Configuration

  • Software or Solutions Architect

  • Metrics definition

  • Hygeia and/or Grafana Dashboards

  • Docker and Dockerfile development

  • Jenkins and Jenkinsfile development

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes or OpenShift

  • Groovy knowledge and experience

  • Development experience using REST

  • Experience developing software on an Agile team
