General Atomics Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts

We are currently hiring a Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer who will be a key member within the GA-EMS Radar Technologies group. In this capacity, the Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer will lead power designs and trade studies in support of new air and ground-based designs. The Senior Power Electronics Design Engineer will report to the Manager of Hardware Engineering within the Radar Technologies group.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Simulate, design, and test efficient and reliable power circuits and systems for air and ground-based radars including power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC), bus bars, and power distribution networks

  • Define, develop and maintain subassembly design requirements from high-level system performance specifications

  • Perform system and subsystem-level trade studies to optimize designs while balancing factors like performance, cost, manufacturability, and ease of integration.

  • Perform bench-level evaluation and troubleshooting of power designs, assemblies, and subsystems

  • Collaborate with the Hardware, Software, and Systems engineering teams to drive the overall development of subsystems and assemblies

  • Present designs, progress, and results at various stages of development during internal and external meetings, technical reviews, and formal design reviews

  • Stay up to date with the latest innovations and trends in power electronics and radar technologies

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education

  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership

  • Proven experience simulating and designing power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC), bus bars, and power distribution networks using tools such as PSpice, Ansys, LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, Altair PSIM, PLECS, etc.

  • Proficient in laboratory measurement techniques and skilled in operating standard lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, current probes, function generators, power analyzers, and other essential tools for precise signal testing and analysis

  • Proven experience designing power circuitry to meet thermal performance standards

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout a fast-paced, R&D environment

  • Must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals

  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance required

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Demonstrated experience designing power circuits, systems, and/or subsystems on radar and/or Electronic Warfare programs

  • Previous experience working with the Department of Defense

  • Active security clearance

  • Experience designing for manufacturability, testability, and cost

  • Experience supporting the production and test of electrical systems
